Just thought i would report this awful incident my cousin had.

They owned an 8 year old silky terrier and a 4 year old labrador, both desexed females, and had them both since they were 8-9 weeks old.

Both always appeared to be happy with each others company from day 1. On my cousin arriving home the dogs ran to greet him.

The little silky stood on her back legs in a greeting gesture only to be grabbed round the middrift by the lab, so severe that my cousin was unable to prize her jaws open to save the little dog, who died instantly of internal injuries.

My cousin and his wife are devastated that something that they never dreampt of would happen, as these 2 dogs were soul mates, ate together, played together and slept together all their life and now this.

Apparently both dogs were being greeted and not one over the other.????

that is so sad. the lab must of thought the silky was beneath her and it was not her place to greet master/owner at the same time as her. i have had the same problem with spice and gypsy(3 1/2kgs) spice thinks that i should not be patting gypsy. i have stopped the problem by grabbing spice by the muzzle and pushing her head to the ground hard and fast with a big leave being said at the same time (i did not hurt spice with the head pushing just put the wind up her)i only had to do this three times and spice has not tried to have a go at gypsy since. i know this is to late but it may of helped if they had seen the signs before it got to this. what a shame poor little silky
Lawson Legend
Sometimes one might percieve that were missing something, two dogs ) or more) is always a balancing act. Lawson always pushed Gem away from me but she still outweighs him by about 1.5 kg so it's still not always an easy task plus I put a stop to it whenever it occurs. I greet both of them at the same time but Lawson always feels he should be the total object of the attention....

What you both say makes sense, going by what they told me i dont think they had any prior warnings of behaviour like that.

hence the reason for their utter shock.

little Mitzi (silky) is now at rest in the pet cemetry. I really feel for these folk as they have no kids, their only babies being their dogs, and they even lay them to rest just as one would a child.
