YEH!!! I have managed to find somewhere where i seem to have access to post!

I am definately having problems and seem to be on a limited access to posting in some areas. I am also unable to reply my own posts, and this is the first section i have seen an attachment option, so here is my reply to the question Tjurkpa raised in QLD Pt 2 -new members section.

The question Tjurkpa asked me to explain for everyone else's benfit about double merling is why Roo is not suited for breeding purposes?

Roo is a white Coolie with merle patches- a result of a (accidental) merle to merle breeding. He has sublaxed pupils- his pupils are off centre- but he has no vision or hearing problems at all.
He is not suited to breeding-(in normal circumstances- unless you had absolute genetic proof of a mm), as his offspring would have a greater dilution of the merling and there would be also likely to be a higher percentage of white pups with a possibiliy of deaf/blind blind pups. This is not a risk I would take.

As for desexing Roo- in response to the question of will I be desexing him? he is only 13 weeks old, his testicles have not even decended yet, so at this stage he will not be desexed. I will be strongly recommending his new owners desex him. I am led to believe he should be about 6mths old before desexing. Is this what everyone else thinks??? feedback.gif

here are some photos of him- he is just delicious- his ears are now starting to stand up needaHug.gif i do love those puppy ears.
and his litter mates for anyone who has dial up and could not see my web album yesno.gif

Thanks Cooee, sorry to hear your having problems with the board, I'm sure it will only be temporary and admin are looking into it.
Regarding desexing age if you enquire at your local RSPCA they will desex as early as 8 weeks.
When we have rescued Koolie pups this is how we have insure that they will not breed, even by mistake, good luck I hope that helps.
Thanks for considering us poor dial ups the pups are beautiful, Storm looks so happy, she hasn't changed a bit to how she was when we owned her.
Have had their DNA collected yet.

As soon as they drop....lop!! Have done them at 3 months and I think it only makes for a nicer dog as they don't seem to get into that piddle on everything frame of mind...in my experience anyway. (I still prefer bitches though)

Thanks for the info Cooee, I think it is very important that as breeders we remain transparent in order to keep the breed sound, i.e no deaf or blind pups or any other genetic disorder that will interfer the breeds funtionality.

It is important that new breeders have access to the wealth of knowledge that the Koolie club has to offer in regards to genetics and I for one am grateful for this.

I have a challenge for you!! Do you think you could manage to get a picture of the sublaxed pupils you refer to. I personally know how hard it is to get pictures of wriggling pups eyes, but I believe that a picture tells a thousand words.

I have attached a couple of pics of some of our dogs eyes that I took just for my own reference. One of a blue merle with a "marbled" eye and another of a pup we had with a blue eye, but with a dash of brown.

From around 40 pups bred from merle to merle matings, we have had 1 white pup with red merle markings who is DEFINATELY not deaf or blind, she also was light on with the pigmentation on her nose and eyes.

Also 1 blue/black merle pup with 1 blue eye that lacked abit in pigmentation on her nose, 1 red merle pup with 1 blue eye and lots of pigmentation around his eyes and nose and 1 blue merle pup with a "marbled" eye, not alot of pigmentation on his nose and big white stipe down his face.

The other pups from these litters were either nicely merled or solid and had lots of pigmentation on their noses and brown or green eyes. Incidentally from the litter of the white pup came 2 solid red pups! So I guess it really is a matter of the draw regarding genes.

I also know for a fact that the merle dogs we bred with have solid coloured dogs up close, i.e grand parents of great grand parents thanks to the knowledge and experience of their breeders.

Regardless of his pupils, Roo is still a cutie that looks like he has a stack of personality and I wish you well in placing him.

Good one Sheringa thanks for the excellent feed back that's what forums are for, the collection of usefull information.
Not bitchig and cat fighting I have wittnesed on other forums, waste of time even trying to share your opinions.
Love the photos, it would be great to record things like eye colour and coat colour and see it there is a link between the two.
Like maybe discover if all dark colours only have black or brown eyes, or can solids have blue eyes, what is a blue eye and what is classified as an ice eye ( an eye with no colour)
All this information in picture form would be very benificial to future breeding programs.
So if you can get the little blugers to stop movings take photos.
