These are my six dogs ... three koolies Poppie, Pixie and Harley and three cattle dogs (two red and one blue) Yardi, Abbey and Mikki. I am beginning to think that I am a "dogaholic"

I mainly do dog obedience with them, but we have finally found an agility trainer locally so Poppie and Pixie will start agility this month and when Harley has completed her level 5 (3 at the moment) at dog obedience she will start too(providing we don't scare off the instructor).

I have taken the girls to Townsville for a herding clinic not long after I first got them and visited the agility club there for the day and the Koolies created a lot of interest and most members although they may have heard of Koolies had no idea what they look like and behave like and so on.

PS most people up here have no idea what a Koolie is ... I have been taking them to the local markets, the RSPCA Million Paws Walk, not only to socialise, but to create a bit of interest in the breed up here.

Now I did warn you that they would be spoilt rotten when they came to live with me, they do occasionally have to do something for their dinnerClick to view attachmentClick to view attachmentClick to view attachment[attachmentid=112
7]but not very often. They are more of a hinderance with horses than a help!!!

The horses are so dog friendly, the dogs have to get real serious to move them out the gate after their mollasses (the cattle dogs have it to a fine art).

I have the problem of when I am not riding the horses the Koolies continually want to bark at them but when out riding they are excellent just cruise along and enjoy the run whatever the pace.

Mine do the same with horses.

dg.gif They are buggers. Mine did the same thing to me once. Once problem is that she was a 6 month old pup that pulled her head out of her collar while I was walking her need the paddocks near our house. Little bugger got the horse into the corner of the paddock. I have never been so scared for her in all my life!!! But she did it no stress, that's when I relised these are not city dogs and their natural instints will always take over. postrace.gif biggrin.gif I was happy when she got out of that paddock but!!!!! zpls.gif Pup.gif

great looking dogs i only looked at one pic as i am now on dial up and it is soooo slow. it's going to kill me i have the Patience's of a newt lol. i also so had a blue that use to zigzag in front of my horse when we were out riding until i got sick of it and let the horse run over her.(she did not get hurt) that fixed the problem she never ran in front of the horse again.

The three koolies were a big problem when I first got them, they just assumed that they could work the horses just like everything else, and until they learned their manners (Dog Obedience classes) they were banned from going to the horse paddock at feed time ... I would spend all my time guarding the horses heels from their really quick attacks. They even learnt to hide behind a clump of grass until my back was turned and then rush in and get in a few barks before I realised and then rush of to another secret location.

They are certainly thinkers!!

Anyway things are a lot more peaceful now ... thank goodness because most times I have horses at home now ... can you imagine the horses would be a nervous wreck waiting for them to ambush them whenever they relaxed.

I can even trust them with jobs like moving the horses out of the feeding area to the paddock. It makes them feel so much more important!!

I probably need to get them some ducks or something so that they can move them around.
