Hi Jemma and welcome Koolie rescue here and sadly there are people who do x breed the Koolie usualy to create a bette hunter or tracker used for hunting, Kooies have an exceptionaly high willinginess which make them ideal for training, cross them with a hunter or tracker and you have a fantastic dog that can do a better job than those breed bred for the job.
In these cases they do have problems and they show up here in the rescue, where you have dogs with strange shaped heads, stocky bodies and unpredictable temperments which makes it doubly hard to place them.
It is a shame and we can only hope that it fades out or they find another breeds to fix their needs on.
I know your girl will have a wonderful nature all our rescues have but you do have to be very careful in locating the right owners for them.
Especialy when most people are looking for a dog that looks like a koolie.

Hi Jemma, welcome to the forum.
She may very well be a cross, but we have a koolie that howls as well. And a Chi, so when they both get excited they have a howl-athon. All the others just stand there look perplexed going HU??

Currently the DNA laboratory we are working with is in negotiations with a company in America to supply a Breed Specificty Test they have developed to Australia. I'm fairly sure the Beagle is one breed they have already found so once we have a Koolie test she could be tested and they tell us they will be able to say what percentage of each breed is in a dog. She may have a beagle or something like it a generation or two back and has thrown back to it. It would be a good test for the test for us. It will be announced here when the test has become available.

Oh Sil, you know we call it "singing" and mine does it too d.gif

Our Obe howls, if you could call it that. Our huskies look around for which one of them is dying coz of the painful noise the poor dog is making.

I guess "singing" covers it, ours might be thought of as opera though as the pitch just gets higher & higher.

are koolies also easily trained? she learns tricks and commands in a matter of minutes. usual cattle dog traits loves water lots of energy loves going in the car and chasing my motorbike. i have tried to teach her how to round the sheep with no response she just runs threw them around them and even pretends she's eating grass gets real close then they head butt her. its so funny to watch. and tips on how to teach her what no means? or what "here" means? she turns deaf lol
