Has anyone seen the TV ad for Kraft cheese where the woman is mking nachos and the little girl comes in and says "The dog has got the washing" and then locks everyone else out of the kitchen? Is the dog a Koolie? Is this an opportunity to make them famous?

cool.gif Hi scouserdog:
I have seen the add, and I would call it an Aussi, but check for the tail at that age it won't have one if it's an Australian Shepherd, Koolie's are an Ancestor of the Aussi so they do share simarlar looks and personailities, but generaly the Aussi is larger, squarer and longer in the coat and heavier in the bone.
But this year marks the ending of tail docking in Australia, so current litters will have tails, and I have had a couple of modern aussi's come before me in the trial ring with tails and they look very Koolie, much smaller, finer boned.
So we may have to rely on DNA testing in the future to tell the two breeds apart once the Koolie is recognised.
Stranger things have happened.

I've only seen the ad once but I thought it had a tail. Mind you, there is a woman at the local dog club who has two Aussies one with a tail and one without and the one with looks very like Perry except that she is a red merle.

Hey guys I know this post is OLD but FYI the dog they were looking for was an ACD (Australian Cattle Dog) as they called me to see if our dog, Tolkien, (who passed away in 2001) could audition to do the ad, so whether it is an ACD, Aussie Shep. or Koolie I don't know but Kraft wanted an ACD for the ad originally. laugh.gif

Some members might like to consider signing up to Animal Actors or such to get more publicity and exposure about and for Koolies. prof.gif They are a smart enough dog and many of you do obedience basic and trailing as well as/ or herding, yard work, etc. You might never get a call but then again we got 5 in 12 years (two after we lost him) kewldude.gif

Tjukurpa was asked to supply a stand in for Snobs a Koolie male for a children series, he become very popular and they thought it would be good best if he had his own stunt dog.
Our Charm was the closest color and size, but the really liked her daughter Breeze, when they explained that she would have to travel to Sydney and remain there with them, while shooting, we passed it up, not only were we not wanting to be parted from her, but we would not be there to watch over her.
Duncan the male who plays snobs is a very nice dog and his owners live in Sydney so it’s easier for them to stay with him.
It would be good if they did their shooting in all states but they don't, so tough luck, but it is exciting to see a Koolie appear on the box occasionally.
I don't think it would give them over night popularity which is what we wish to avoid, to stop impulse buying, fad purchases, puppy farming or breeders for profit cashing in on them.
As the clubs publicist I have looked into community programs that feature animal related items, so if you ever learn of any programs that are animal related let us know and we will follow it up, this way we can explain the Koolies needs and requirements, their terrific abilities and personalities as well as include the Club and our support system and ethics, kind of like a package.
The morning program, good morning Australia, I think is what it's called, celebrated St.Patricks day and invited lots on animals to participate many were interviewed now that's good coverage, many of the sponsored dog walks are covered by the news.
I have done a couple of radio interviews at animal expos, these are all terrific way to reach the public with a good strong message regarding the Koolie and we can continue to protect and correctly promote our chosen breed.
So thanks for the great topic and keep your ears and eyes peeled for those special events our members can support, we can even list them on our calendar page. ThumbUP.gif
If anyone ever believes they have a great idea regarding introducing the Koolies to the general public, we are all ears, let us know, you never know where it might lead our breed and when the Koolie Club of Australia do publicity for the Koolies all our members and the Koolie breed benefits and that's just how it should be, we are after all the Koolie community. group.gif
