Hi all

Just an observation.

When we took on Dottie Dog she had been living in a shadeless cage all of her life. No contact with other dogs or much with humans. It took her a while to trust us but when she did things started to happen. For example she jumped into my lap on invitation for the first time last night when before she was reluctant to be handled. ( No she cant get enough)

The most amazing thing is that with Mont M Dog arriving, he has taught Dottie how to be a pup. She has started to play with him and us and when we went to see Kerrie she did not freak out with 30 odd other dogs there.

Also when we got her she would run away like she had been kicked at the sight of poly pipe. We have been gently introducing poly pipe and patting her with it to show her that it wont hurt her. When Kerrie inadvertantly picked up a piece the other day, instead of running as she would have 2 weeks ago she treated it with complete ignore.

All of this has happened in 2 weeks. It is nothing short of miraculious. I cannot wait to ger her previous owner to see her being eager and compliant. That will really get up his nose!

Regards

Lockie

She looks so much better and happy now. It doesn't take long and they forget their previous life.

Koolies are so forgiving, nothing seems to crush their spirit.
Dot is a beautiful girl, our koolies loved meeting her and she was just wonderful, you could see it was rather overwhelming, our place usually is to most people, but she was keen to get to know everyone and reached out her head to touch noses and to greet us, and she was never far from Lockie’s side.
But she was a bit reluctant to leave as they all are, this is after koolie paradise, but once in the car, you could see she was where she wanted to be and it was so good to see the weight she had gained and feel the softness of her clean coat, Dottie is one happy lady, and I think Lockie is very happy too.

It is great to see that "smile" back in her eyes. She looks a differant dog to the one we saw in the first pics you posted from her old home!!!! Well done!!!! I hope things work out well for you and your doggie family!!!!

Hi & Thankyou

She is indeed a different dog. We are so happy with her. She is healthy happy and really smart ( sometimes too smart)Now all I have to do is train her.

Her previous owner dropped in yesterday and I had great pleasure in calling her and having her come and giving her sit and stay and having her obey. You could have knocked him over with a feather. Trouble is he still dosn't get it......... Coolies respond to love, kindness and a little bribery.

I think all dogs deserve to end up with ppl who feel lucky to own them and proud of them, and it looks like this has happened for Dottie. You're lucky to have each other, it seems to me.

she is just so sweet and i am so glad that she has found a good home. i missed her story of how she was treated and what was done to her but Dottie is safe now and is loved by you and that's all that matters. can i ask you what breed your other dog is i like his colour very much and have seen dogs in the past with that colouring but was never able to find out the breed

I agree that the Koolie (well I have KooliexBC's) are really sensitive dogs. I yelled at my girls the other night after the pulled me off my bike while training for our ET Title and they would not talk to me for the rest of the night. I only yelled at them cos what they didi was really silly of them and they knew they had done wrong. What a sight me off my bike on the ground and my yelling at these two dogs while they are trying to lick my face. LOL d.gif Anyway I agree that with love and some time you really get the best out of your dog. Good luck and keep us updated on this great Koolie girl!!!!

Hi

If you are refering to the pup he is pure Koolie. We have always had Koolies except for a golden cocker we saved from certain death 13 years ago (wanted by a petulant child and discarded in favor of a cat within 12 months. They were simply going to kill her!). We still have her, poor old fatso.......we love her to bits and she loves Dottie and the pup Monty.

I have included some pics of our first, Koolie Becky Dog, that I have put on another post.

I only tried riding with Wal once - bad idea!! I ended up on the ground too and Wal with a cut foot.

Have wondered about a Springer or similar, think that might be safer. And training, that would be a good idea too, lol. dogwalk.gif

Anyone who bikes with their dogs, do you do it around suburban streets or only where you can go longer, straighter (and fewer dogs barking from behind their front fences)?

I do it round the streets in a rural residential area when staying at my partner's place in Tandara. I have my two sheringa girls on a split lead with a 6ft lead so there is a bit of length. Took a bit of practice and a bit of firmness when passing other dogs, I try to keep their interest on me and speed up to keep their concentration, but they seem to be pretty good now. When out in the mulga at home just run all seven off lead, they get so excited when they see the bike.

I have been teaching my partner's red cattle male. He is very strong and pigheaded and I have to really brace myself at times to stop being pulled off, but all ok so far. I ride horses a lot so have good balance which seems to help.

Forget the pushy, try it with a 4 wheel motor bike!! Koolies just love em and you can go hell for leather and they want more and more, just as long as there is a big wet dam at the end of it. Now that's fun - unfortunately the speedo cable is broken so I don't know how fast we go but the girls are flat out all the way!!!

Luck for us we have a creek only one street from us. The council has done a great job of redevloping it with large bike paths and making the creek really clean and large lake areas for the dogs to swim. I had mine on a split lead and my younger girl was just about pulling my other girls head off trying to go faster and faster. So I took the older one off the lead and let her just follow along while I went as fast as my little legs would take me. She thought it was ace!!! She just wanted to go faster but I had no hope!!!! We will keep at it though. We have till May next year to get ready for the ET so we will get there. I think you are right Silhouette 4 wheeler would be much better!!!! I told them I would make them run behind the car if they pulled me off again!!!! yesno.gif

Horses are good too!! soon as I drag one of the ponies out of the paddock, mine go pearshaped!! Nothing like a good ride to wear of that energy, they just go and go... unfortunately it is getting hot up here and either early in the morning or late in the afternoon is the only option and they need to have a good creek to slobber in at the end.

It is only when I am feeling lazy and don't want to saddle that I drag out the mountain bike and tear along the road for a bit.

i have a thingy that is attached to my bike it's a short pipe with a short springy lead running through the middle of it and clips on under the bike seat that way i have two hands free for the bike and it's a lot easier to keep control of your dog i have even tied a second short lead to it and use it for two dogs at a time. spice learnt very quickly that if i said LOOK she would look at the bike and see that she was a bit close to it and move away a bit and if i said BACK she would drop back a bit away from the front wheel and i use LEAVE IT if we when past other dogs. with the dog leader on the bike we have had no accidents which is how i like lol i will take a pic of it for you. i found it on Ebay for $20.00

nothing beats the thrill of hooking 2-3 hukies to the front of a modified pushbike/scooter & letting them haul your bum flat bickie through the forest!!!!

Bet that would be a rush. Do you ever do it with Koolies? Have seen pics of ppl skijoring with all sorts of dogs, and Ray Coppinger had a favourite lead dog that was a Border.
mushoz
I want to try Koolies, have had Radar our Koolie X in harness, he went well, based on their stamina I think they would be excellent sled-dogs!
JackieH
Ok Mushoz ... we want the picture of that one so get cracking!!
RachelleBuck
That sounds like a great idea royalla, pics please.
I think I am too much of a chicken for that. I will end up with my heart in my mouth!!!
mushoz
It sounds like a Springer is it Royalla?
