I found this on the NSW proposed Legislation;

Animal (regulation of sale) Bill 2007.

I've only just skimmed through it so far, but I think it's a positive step forward ....my only question would be;

define 'registered' breeder ....does this include separate clubs, councils & associations away from the State Bodies??? question1.gif

& this, I can't open the links for some reason maybe it's just my system playing up, but so far this page might explain those genetic defects Tj was mentioning in the DNA thread.
Vic Legislation brief

If these are the only genetic defects targetted then I don't see the problem with it...but if it is a broader range that is a different matter.

& this
more on Vic legislation ....

The Victorian Bill has been passed!

I can't seem to find the whole legislation though, maybe it's being written seeing as though it's only just been passed???....but it appears to mostly target practises such as
-Tail Docking & unrequired (medically) surgical procedures like de-barking etc.
-Breeding of dogs with known genetic defects but I 'think' the ones listed in on of the top links are targetted only...but can't confirm.
-Reducing non-registered backyard breeders, sale of dogs/cats in pet shops & stopping the 'designer dog' problem.

....if anyone else has info please post it.
