Five boys and three girls ... won't know the colours for another week or so. Mother blue as you can see and father is red.

OHHHH THEY ARE SOOOO CUTE. I bet you are a proud grand nanny. Well done!!! I hope your babies are fit and healthy and mum is OK. I didn't know that they were born white, that is amazing!!

They are white until about 3 weeks old. If they have patches this indicates what colour they will go. (brown patches - red ACD or black patches blue ACD) the ones that have patches are all brown so 5 will be red, the ones that have no patches, I will just have to wait and see. Fingers crossed I get some blue like mum this time but the previous litter was all red too.
We tried with two different blue males, but she just didn't like them and would not allow them to mate (wouldn't even let them near her she just growled like a feral!!) and this time was not a intended mating with "Red" as I was chasing around again looking for "Morty" the Blue ACD (he is a builders dog and could be anywhere in the area) but she decided that she was in love with "Red" so Mikki made the decision for me.

My god!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good thing it wasn't a koolie litter, I'd be screamin in me sleep.
They sure look like healthy little buggers, mums nice looking too.
I see by the time of their arrival she likes to rise early, much like our girls, god love em.

There was one more (she had nine), unfortunately we had one casualty and it was a blue girl (had the black earpatches) anyway she is an excellent mum and has protected them from the rest of the crowd, Abbey the red ACD (who is due to have puppies next month) has taken up residence outside the puppy room to help guard them and direct the situation, although I notice that tonight Mikki has allowed some of the Koolies to have a closer look at the new additions.
Poor ol' Smith has a few chunks out of him when he was too slow getting out of the firing range!!!

It's good of her to allow them to view I known many other breeds that have to be taken away from their babies for others mostly people to have a peek, it's all so stressful, for mum and babies.
I have not, touch wood, seen this display in any Koolies, they just love their babies, the whole pack, aunties, uncle, sisters, brothers from older litters even dads are allowed to come close to sniff and peek, it is a lovely site to see.

Takes about a week to 10 days (then is mine and nobody touch) and then the rest of the family is allowed a look, when they are turfed outside in a pen at 3 weeks, the whole family joins in playing with the puppies.
When I first got Poppie and Pixie, I had a litter of pupps from Abbey, my red ACD and when the little pups got older they all romped and played together.

I love the way you raise your pups they must be so steady and stable.
We like to have them birth in the house then at three weeks they move out to the yard, mums mostly weaned them and the older junior males take over careing and teaching them doggy manners, and mum comes back to them of a night time for a last feed before bed.
when their five weeks old we let the junior girls play with them and they all very maturnal and choose their puppy and herd it around, it all looks so cute and very much a family concern.
I have found that if I allow a junior daughter to be present at her mums litter birth she seems more capable and relaxed when it is her turn.
I have had one female who came back to us to have her first litter and was just such a trial, even sat on her bottom and tried to stop the pups from being born, and the scream she let out when they were born, and yet they were a perfect size and she should have had no problems.
Actualy she didn't have any problems, she passed them well and there were no problems except from her relutance to be there.
She was an alright mother but prefered to be with me, so I had to sit near her bed while she fed the babies or else she wouldn't stay with them.
Another female was just as terrible and both had never seen a litter born.
I know that many good bitches have litters all the time without having seen one first, but it makes me feel I am preparing each female for her big adventure and it does seem to work.
But maybe just for me.

I think it is good for the mum's to share as well once the newness has worn off, we have a really happy team of dogs with very little bikkering. Don't get me wrong, they have there squabbles but except for the two red ACD's (top dog and wannabe top dog) never gets out of hand. I do tend to take my dogs all places that I am able and that includes the puppies when they are a bit older.
I stay at my partners place every few weekends and this means all dogs go too and when the pups are over three or four weeks they go as well. Gets them used to travelling in the car and moving around to different places.
The only litter I didn't do this with, I had so much trouble with transporting them to their new home, they were hysterical in the car, so now I make sure that they go for a drive with mum near to reassure them.
Some of the puppies have to travel long distances to their new homes and this is a good start for them to move around in the car first.
The litter that were born during Cyclone Larry were the most well travelled puppies by the time they left for their forever homes they were seasoned travellers and at six weeks when they saw me head for the ute, they were usually waiting at the back to get lifted into their travel crate.

How are the puppies going Jackie????

Rachelle,
Puppies are going great, I had to move out of home to my partners for a little bit, last week I came home to a snake in the puppy pen, luckily it was only a night tiger but enough for me to pack up the dog family for a week or so until I can build a snake proof pen for them at home. That makes 10 dogs (and 8 puppies) at my partners home and we have taken over!!! the puppies were in the laundry but they are crawling about now and so they have been relocated to the garage!! I go home to check up on everyone at lunch time (I leave the back door open) and most days Mikki has moved them to different locations around the house ... one in the bathroom, one in the toilet, two in the bedroom and so on. Perhaps it is time for them to be locked up, but Mik has so much fun moving them around (she just drags them by the leg) I just go about collecting a puppies as I go through the house until I have the correct order.
I will take some more pickies over the weekend and post on Monday, computer monitor spat it last week so can only use work which is not a hardship as I only have dial up at home.

Gees I would of packed up too had I found a snake in the puppy pen, not a fan of snakes of any type.
Luckly you can got home at lunch time and check on them, when Kelli had her pups we were sooo lucky that dad could take 6 weeks AL the day she had the pups otherwise I would of been a worry head and a half.
Post pics soon, we had a red ACD who lived to 18 and mum still has a ACD x at the moment (Kathleen Elizabeth, funny name for a ACD!!!) so we have a really big soft spot for the guys.
Good luck, hopefully everything settles down for you!!!!

ACD's were the love of my life until my Koolies ... and between us we have three reds and two blues. My old red girl Yardi went down with a tick last week and it was touch and go whether she would survive as she is 12 now and not as spry as she could be, but she came home from the vet last Friday and although still on exercise bans is up and attem!! So has been a dramatic couple of weeks.

It never rains it pours doesn't it. I know how you feel. Pheonix has come down with an alligic reaction to something in his feet and is about to chew them to stumps, Libby has conjuctividus (spelling???) AGAIN and Kelli cut her paw on rocks while swimming and last night got a snap on the ear from someone else that has split the top of her ear in two and made a bloody bloody mess.
But at least you have puppies!!! LOL
Hope it all calms down for you up there ASAP

RachelleBuck, not just your eyes, they are mostly red.. even though Mik is blue and "Red" is red, she has red in her background. Her last litter of 7 was all red.
We are hoping that the blue looking puppy will stay blue, the blue tint that is on some of the red puppies fades as they get older.

Oh he is so very handsome the last shot of the boy ACD. I can tell you now that the adventurous puppies turn out to be the best. I believe Ceejay was an adventure puppy and she turned out to be super confident.
I like the way you and Tjurkupa raise your puppies too, very natural. One of my friends just bought a puppy home and it had been in a breeding cage for the whole 12 weeks, and the muscle development is a bit poor.
But keep us posted with new puppy shots please JackieH.

That particular boy is really adventurous, hopefully he doesn't hurt himself, cause he is ALWAYS up to mischief!!
I don't lock them up yet but they mostly stay on the back patio and follow the other dogs around when they want to play. Mikki does not stay with them much, they are getting to the age when then are very rough with her so she just comes to steal their food and give them a quick feed and off she goes to the shed or into the house where they can't get to her. But watch out Mik they are getting better at keeping up!!
I am back home in snake country now so I have started locking them in the laundry at night, they are not impressed with this, but the carpet snakes come out at night and they still might be a mouthful at this age.

Look like little terrors as with all babies, that's what's so appealing about them.
I love how mum gets down and play with them, that's what I like mums that still remember what it's like to be a pup.
Makes for good babies, it is why I try very hard to have my bitches first litter at two.
It isn't always possible, if Indi our blue merle tri(the one in my avatar) is successful with her first litter in feb she will be six.
Not our normal proceedure, but it is now or never and she is the last of her line, so we had to give her a chance.(sorry there is her brother Snowy proudly owned by Admin)
And those who have been waiting for her pups have been waiting a long time.
If she doesn't carry, then I won't be trying again, as I feel she is getting too old and don't wish to take undure risks, she is a favorite, aren't they all.

Well we have delivered Mikki's last puppy today, he is going to Cooktown to live so we met them halfway to save them a 5 hour trip. The eight puppies have scattered all over North Queensland. Mossimo the boy that picked up the paralysis tick has gone to Cloncurry!!! the couple that bought him were extatic with him!!!
It is a sad day to see them all go, but you can't keep them all even if you want to.

You bet they are hard work... especially when they are not penned up!!! I just can't bear to see them locked in cages. The Koolie team were a great help towards the end taking over most of the entertaining responsibilites taking them all over the yard!! Smithy was so gentle he would bring is bit of left over toy over to them and play gentle tug and share his toys and bones. I missed a excellent photo moment with Smith on his bed with two puppies sharing his bone with him. Nothing was sacred once they were able to get up that first step!!! The house barricades got higher and higher until I just gave up and taught them to squeak when they wanted to go pottie and take them outside.
But they are certainly entertaining with their antics... They just better look after my babies or watch out!!
