Hi everyone cross posting this from DOL thought someone maybe able to help out
'BUSTER' koolie x kelpie - He was surrendered and is 2 years old. He is said to be good with kids and the limited involvement he has had with them would indicate that is true. He is not always good with other dogs(seems to be fear based) and is quite hyper.

I don't know about the Kelpie bit, to me (no expert) he looks like yet another koolie x staffy, by the size and shape of the mouth and head. Someone in that Albury, Yass, Canberra region is continuing to breed that cross and several have ended up in pounds in the area over the last few years. I wish they would stop breeding such a silly cross.

Do you think that they would be breeding them to use as pie dogs?? I thought his head was rather large for a kelpie but still nice colouring and very happy looking!! Hope he finds a great home

Have been told that koolies have been used to track pigs with tracking devices attached to them so the pig dogs don't have to exhaust themselves in the tracking, once the koolies have found them the pig dogs are used from there. It only stands to reason someone would try to combine the two. Don't know though if staffies are used as pig dogs. Of course he could have some sort of mastiff in him, just the size of the mouth makes me imagine him locking his jaw up when he has grabbed something. I'm sure he is a lovely dog himself but I just wish they wouldn't continue to do the crossing.

Hi Sheree e4 we need to be careful now days as the shelters do know of the koolie club of Australia and Koolie Rescues we get a lot of false notices of aledged Koolies in shelter.
Anything with spots will be displayed as Koolie X even though like in this case you would be hard pressed to find the Koolie bit.
I have 3 permanent rescue here because people thought they were Koolie X, one is mostly Staffie, another Labrador and the last Deli
So we are confident that we can recoginise Koolies, Koolie x any working breed, Koolie x any other breed and not Koolie.
When people come to Koolie rescue they come looking for a Koolie and that is the breed we have chosen to rescue.
Having said that I have contacted Albury to let them know if there is anything me can do to assist them to please let us know, I already know the ranger, who normaly contacts me when a koolie is placed there, he abviously didn't think this guy was a koolie.
I'd bet my bottom dollar he is related to the three other koolie x we rescued from the same area we haven't had one for a couple of years but for three years when we first started Koolie rescue, we got one every year
Thanks for keeping your eyes open.
