Ceejay
Hello fellow Koolie lovers. I have had my Koolie for just over 2 years, and have just started obediance with her and will also start agility once we have mastered the obediance.
Her name is of course Ceejay and I bought her from Tjurkpa Kennels (thanks Kerrie) and was the best decision I made picking this breed. I also own two other dogs (rescues) Jody the Labrador who is an old rescue girl I got her at 7 years. And Izzy the Kelpie X when people decided she was too hard work. I also have two cats who think they are dogs and are part of the pack and a horse called Tink.

Okay you asked for photos here are the photos of Ceejay. Royalla I live in a small town called Calliope about 20 minutes away from Gladstone. I have just started obediance with both Ceejay & Izzy, and once we have mastered obediance, agility and please don't laugh Doggy Dancing. Ceejay does a few tricks too. Thank you guys for the very warm welcome.

CeeJay is a great looking girl - full of beans by the look of it too.

I've just started my new pup, Ziggy (a Koolie Rescue - also from Tjukurpa) on obedience. Unfortunately the first meeting I attended (last Saturday) was the local obedience club's Christmas break-up and they don't meet again until February, so I'll doing the initial obedience training myself at the local park over summer.

So far Ziggy is returning when I call him, he can sit and he is learning to drop. I can't wait until he's ready to learn how to fetch a ball. It makes exercising them so much easier. dogwalk.gif

PS if you want to see a picture of Ziggy, there's a few in the Community Corner section.

i know were you are d.gif about an hour from bundy that makes you about 2 hours from maryborough AND there is herding near you i have been told about a lady trainer at Gladstone i will find out her name if you would like but i will give you a BIG warning herding is VERY addictive d.gif i also was doing agility and obedience with spice but now i have moved to proston (no were land)and there is no training here the closest is nanango 1 1/4 hours away and to many big gray grasshopper's in between sorry i like my car the way it looks now d.gif the best obedience training in that area is at gympie but to far away for you and the same with me 1 3/4 hours for me and 3 for you bugger! But please save your penny's for April we are having a herding workshop at Andrews place at Durong that's only 1/2 away from me and all koolies are welcome ooh! and their owners of course there has to be a licensed driver to get them there d.gif but the main thing is we would love to meet you and both of you dogs and i have a spare room and there is camping available to any one that is interested in comeing and that go's for tj as well hint hint tj surprised1.gif
Ceejay
Royalla if you can get that ladies name for me I would love to start these two in herding around here, I have been trying to find someone that does it in this area. Am I allowed to bring Izzy to the Koolie herding workshop, If I could that would be great? And you are in the middle of nowhere! I had to look on the map to find Proston and Durong. I will be definately coming to the herding workshop in April, I have put my day in off work on the 28th already. surprised1.gif

And thanks guys for the comments about Ceejay and Izzy, Mykool yes they are both full of beans and definately keep me on my toes (I am going to have a look at Ziggy after this). I get woken up at 5.30am to do obediance training with them, it is the "we are staring at you until you wake up". Talk about excited. And soon as I hit home it is straight out to a property with 40 acres to do my horse Tink and give the girls a run. As I write they are running out the back with each other. They are my fitness regime. d.gif
mykool
Yes, my dogs are my fitness regime too and I'm hoping Ziggy's puppy energy will force me to the next level (and a few less pounds around the middle). Ziggy is awake early too and gives a few small barks to let us know it's time to get up.

But we have a two and a half year old boy who is an early riser as well (bless him!!), so we're usually dragged out of bed by 6.00 a.m. or not long after.

I usually take the dogs on a half hour early morning walk, then after I've dropped my oldest boy at school I take the dogs to the local 'off lead' park for an hour or so. There's a group of regular dog lovers who go most mornings and all the dogs run together and socialise. I've also begun some simple obedience with Ziggy, which we do at the park as well. It's a great opportunity to reinforce what I taught Precious all those years ago too.

During the day the dogs go where I go. Ziggy already has quite a fan club at my son's school - the whole of grade prep knows him now and he laps up all the attention. woof.gif

In the evenings I try and fit another walk in and also some ball throwing/fetch with Precious, although Ziggy is beginning to get curious about the ball too. dog21.gif

you are lucky mykool i have always wanted to live in a place that has an off lead park but i will just have to do with half off hivesville for them to run around in not many house there just a pub, corner shop, patrol station and about ten house's but proston is bigger we have the same as above apart from no petrol but there is two parks a showgrounds and about thirty house's big hey d.gif the postie came yesterday and left me some bills which i quickly read and then put them on the coffee table so that i could pay them today. the dogs were inside with me spice gypsy and amber were laying next to the computer Quin under my bed Ellie out the back in her crate and Summa pacing around and she always does then Summa disappeared and i could here a strange noise yes you guested it summa was in her crate with the bills ripping them up now i have to ring telstra and ask them to send me another bill as my dog ate it. eek1.gif spank.gif i wonder if they will believe me d.gif
Tjukurpa
Hey those guys look real sharp.
All working breeds are welcomed to Koolie events, I'll be at the April workshop as well so look forward to catching up you all.

I'm fat my dogs are fat is this supposed to tell me something.

I go walking along the river most mornings after rising at 5:30am, but I think chocolate makes my clothes shrink. haha.gif
mykool

Forgot to mention in my nearlier posts, Ceejay, I WISH I had a horse! Sadly, I don't think it will ever happen. We don't have enough land. Most of my riding experiences have been on friends horses. I had a friend (sadly, we lost contact 13 years ago when he moved to Swan Hill, then he moved again and I don't have his current address) who had many horses - including several Clydesdales. We used to go riding around the Warrandyte area on weekends. My favourite horse was one of his Clydesdales (such lovely horses, like giant puppies!). He'd ride his stock horse and I'd ride the Clydesdale down to the river for a swim.

There is an interesting story about Tink my horse. I obtained her for $1.00 during a nasty divorce between two people (have no idea who they were), woman was very bitter and decided to sell off her horses cheap to good homes so the husband would not get them. Tink's original name was Needles, I changed it, please don't laugh, to Goldenlace Tinkerbelle, Tink for short. She is an appaloosa mare buckskin with a lace blanket. She is 17 years old and she is lovely. I will start riding her again very soon after a year break. I was in a car accident hence the wait.

I don't have any land but she is agisted at a friends property (they have a Clydesdale cross, a Percheron and Quarter Horse, plus a foal that is Andalusion X). Never say never, I had been asking for a horse since I was 4, I had to wait 26 years before I got my horse. Oh and my wish horse is a Fresian, and unless I win lots of money I won't be getting one of those. postrace.gif

I was the same, wanted a pony all my childhood, but I'm also very scared of hights so horse riding wasn't so appealing. Then ended up living on a farm and found miniature horses...perfect. Don't take up much space, don't eat much and multiply so quickly you end up with 30 before you know it!! I had given the boss a choice, one clydie or a couple of minis, he thought his fences might be safer with the mini. Our sharefarmers own BIG horses including a fresian x thoroughbred that is absolutely huge, here is a phone snap of her Click to view attachmentWhen they go away I am supposed to do the feeding....
royalla
Minni's are so cute. i grew up with thoroughbreds ans as an adult did not make it to five feet tall and at the time i only weighed 35 kg so i had to learn how to use my voice to help control the 16/17 hand horse's then i lived in Queanbeyan i had a haflinger x who was massive and i loved him he was so gentle for which i was very glad as after having 3 kids my weight was still only 45 kg i can't say the same any more the fourth kid did me in d.gif i moved to Queensland with two horse's bee and libon be was a chestnut thoroughbred mare and libon is a gray stock horse x quarter horse i sold my horse to my cousin after the car accident as i can no long ride horse's and i do miss them dearly.
mushoz
Ceejay, I have a buckskin appy too (amongst my equine collection which also includes Miniature Horses LOL)! He's my main stallion & just an incredible horse!

Here's a pic of him....

I too have the dream for a Fresian, but until the day I catch my bankmanager drunk & willing to sign anything I'll have to wait.

Ok, so I'm not alone in melting over Friesians. Although, I do feel they're a little bit fancy for everyday, so Lucky would do me fine. I'm thinking of getting a second horse, and would really like a Waler.

i love whaler's and they are just as ozzie as koolies now that would be the way to go. i also tried to find a whaler then i was in Queanbeyan but i was told that most of them were up here in Q.L.D but when i moved here i could not find any at all. i all so love friesians but they were out of my price range so i settled for Jo my old haflinger he was a great horse and so pretty red roan with flaxen mane and tail white blaze and socks.
Silhouette
The plan is that Lucky will go back to a Friesian stallion, Kerry (her owner) knows people that own a stallion and is hoping for a 'good deal'. We have to keep hoping milk prices stay good even so, but I think she is only 2 so there is no great rush yet. I'll try and get a photo of her uncovered to make you all drool some more cat.gif

I looked at the Waler Soc site yesterday, and there are a bunch of QLD studs. It's www.walerhorse.com

but thats now not back 14 years ago i can no longer ride horse's because of my back and arm. old age is getting here fast i am just falling to bits d.gif
Ceejay
Mushoz your boy is beautiful, I have attached a photo of Tink to compare the colours. Excuse the "ahem" belly on her but she has been a broodmare in the past and she wouldn't be Tink without it, that is what I think.

IPB Image

I had a peep at Walers too, I love the fact they come in different sizes and guess what..... there is a breeder of them in Gladstone. So maybe I will go and have a look to see what they are like. Not that I can have another horse....yet. laugh.gif

sorry almost forgot to tell you that the lady that does the herding is at woodford i am just trying to track down her name for you. there is also a bloke that teachers paddock work at kingaroy and comes over to hivesville as well.

Ok so with all these horse knowledgable folk on the forum, maybe you can offer me some assistance.

Bethany my teenager daughter is very keen to have a horse but I am not sure what type would be best for her, she is an inexperience rider but learn qickly and has located a good trainer to teach her once she has her horse.

All the gear has been taken care of and we hope to move on more acrage in the new year.

So it is really just finding the best possible horse for her, she is very tall and I would love a very gentle, steady, reliable horse.

Don't care what sex, a buckskin like yours Mushoz he and Tink have caught her eye.

I would like her to research them more before the decision is made but if any of you can help by pointing us in the right directions, we would appreciate

You should have a chat to Enid (she breeds Australian Stock Horses) and see what she thinks. She has been riding since she was a baby and knows as much about horses as she does about Koolies. She also knows Bethany and may come up with a solution. Lil has an Australian Riding Pony 14.2hh and Ewan (who is 6) has a 15.2hh Australian Stock Horse. Two totally different horses but suit each child. Both ride at Pony Club (which I would recommend for Bethany). You are a great mum as it is every little girls dream to own a horse.
mushoz
something thats quiet & tolerant is what your looking for TJ, look around & find something that is safe. I recommend an older QH or similar, they have the size & the temperament but it comes down to finding the right 1 for you & Bethany
royalla
what you are looking for is a bomb proof mare or gelding no smaller then 14 1/2 hands and no taller then 15 1/2 hands for her first horse 16 hands may scare her. i think 15 hands would be perfect for her but make sure it is bomb proof. you can find some lovely quite dun stock horse's and quarter horse's in that height range just get someone that you know and trust to go with you that can ride and knows what to look for in leg or back problems bowed tendons, shin sore, apple joints, extra extra and to make sure it has a good mouth that means a soft mouth for stopping and turning. the age is important to for her first horse you don't won't a young horse they can have blonde moments look for a horse between 8 and 14 years of age. horse can live up to 30 yrs old if they have been looked after well i hope this helps you a bit TJ but i have probably just made it harder for you d.gif
by the way i am sorry i gave you the wrong information yesterday there is a lady doing herding at woodford her name is Shelia merchant but that's the wrong one the other lady is at Miriam Vale she has placed adds at the Gladstone stock feed store in the past so if you give them a ring they could tell you who she is. i hope this helps you
