Hi Guys
My little baby Gabby went to the vets today to be desexed. It has been a long time since I had my dogs done and was wondering what to do for tonight about exercise etc and if to give her food tonight or night. I know I sound like a worrying mother but I just want her to be comfortable after a traumatic day
thanks for any help guys
cheers

Just goin to the toilet on her lead will be enough exercise for her for a few days.
A bit of chicken, maybe some rice, her tummy will be sore she may not fell like a big heavy meal.
If she is anything like other Koolies, she will heal very fast and you will have a problem keeping her quiet.
Good luck

Yep that is what I thought. I have two cages set up one in the lounge room and a soft crate in the bedroom with kylie blankets. Just so I can have her quiet and not playing rough with Xena. Gabby is a sook though. Gave her a bath yesterday and you would have though I had belted her she hated it. Shaking all over the place. Poor little baby.I have cooked up some mince and rice so I will give a little bit.
Bit of a brag went to training last night which we wont be going for another couple of weeks again. We were promoted to grade 4 and she coped really well. Not bad for a 51/2 month old. She is really smart loves the clicker and food. I was only doing little bits and pulling her out though and still playing she thought it was a ball.

Poor little baby. I think keeping her quiet will be your biggest problem. Best of luck.

Just went and picked up little Gabby. Poor little bubs. She is still dopey and I have just put her to bed. The other girls are all checking her out and Gabby is not impressed and turned her lips at them. She is a grumpy little girl at the moment. Going to be fun have to keep her quiet for 10 days no playing with other dogs ha that's going to be fun

Don't worry it can be done, keeping them quiet. But I didn't do it the whole ten days, just until the redness went out around the stich site. Koolies are fast healers, so by the third day Ceejay was playing again. But I did keep the site covered for a bit longer and she never did worry at the stitches. I have been lucky with all the dogs with the spaying though.
Good luck!

how is gabby feeling today. gypsy didn't have any problems when i had her done but Image did her body temp dropped and then she started screaming and doing doughnuts i had to pin her down and try to ring the vet were i was told not to worry about her she was fine and just having a reaction to the cat gut stitchers but after that we could never let Image into the house again as she leaked pee all the time when she was walking, sitting, sleeping even when she was eating it just dripped out she never had to squat again poor girl it turned me off female vets and having bitches desexed. but i am sure your vet is much better and safer then that one was, i have heard many people complain about her since then and wonder how she stays in business

this was Image she was a smithfeild and one of the best dogs that i have had the pleasure of owning this pic was taken when Amanda was 7 years old that was 7 years ago and we had to put Image down not long after that as she had an accident and sustained brain damage

Hi Royalla
Well we survived the first night. Gee trying to keep her calm That's a laugh. The morning we had a zoomy ran around the house we tried to get Xena to play we flew onto the lounge we are winging in the cage as she doesnt want to be in there oh its fun. I just got my other cage and put it with the other one and threw my other dogs in there. They are not impressed and threw Gabby in the other one so we have settled and has realized she isnt missing out on anything. I am having her on the lead to come out and lay by me on her mat soon we I have stopped doing all my jobs.
Sorry to hear about Image nice dog that one. Shouldnt have those kind of problems. I have had 5 bitches all desexed and never had a problem must have had a good vet. The only thing I did have they had an occasional leek and they were put on stibestoral tablets once a week. Never had a problem. Last night Gabby had a screaming session as I thought I would wait a little bit before feeding her (wasnt sure if I should or not and decided to give her a little bit of mince, vegies and rice) well we were hungry didnt throw up you wouldnt think there was a thing wrong with her. God I have 10 days of this
cheers

Good Luck, I managed 3 days with Libby. Keep them quite, pull the other one!!!! I just got a large bandage and wrapped it around Libby and let her outside after 4 days. She was fine, I took her back 10 days later and had the stichers out no problems!!!

The vet that I go to goes in through the flank rather than the belly and they only have a three day quiet period and they are off and running, I don't know whether it is a good or bad thing, but I have had five girls done that way and never had a problem, at the time of the operation or after.
I had a german shephard that was done in Adelaide while I was living there and she developed a peeing problem, mainly when she went to sleep, as she got older and she was put on a weekly medication that fised the problem.

Gabby has a little cut under her belly and we dont have to come back as it is dissovable. It doesnt seem to bother her which is probably why I am having problems of keeping her quiet. We have had a good sleep and had our lunch and I am about to go to work so grandma is looking after her. Hehehe she is going to have keeping her quiet as she has had her sleep and she is ready for a play. Funny thing is my other coolie knows she isnt allowed to play at the moment and refuses to play with her which is frustrating Gabby as she has always played with her before. It has been a long time and I cant quite remember what I did with my other girls. I am not allowing her to go outside as my yard had very dry grass and dirt and dont want anything to go into the cut. She not happy as she does her sunbaking and everytime I am taking her out to go to the toilet she uses that as an excuse to lay in the dirt. There is a lot of nooooooooooooo Gabbyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy upppppppppppppppp Gabbyyyyyyyyyy as soon as I see her to start to lay down. gee and this is the first 24 hours LOL
Interesting to see the next few days
cheers

Well we are in day 4 and keeping Gabby quiet has been impossible between the whinging and doing zoomies on lead or off (just took her off lead it was easier) to attacking my friend (giving him kisses and grabbing his beard and trying to jump off with it still in mouth) too pidling inside which she hasnt done at all since I have had her home to getting stuck into my kelpie and than finally putting toys in the toilet bowl. I have now decided we are going to the park for a run and doing obedience with her to tire the brain out at least we cant be destructive. Gabby didnt like the being quiet for 10 days. The wound looks good and is healing quite nicely

Good to hear that Gabby is healing nicely, yep I know all about destruction. Have had constant steady rain for the past week. You should see my lounge room, ripped up toilet paper, Izzy found the eggs that the chooks laid hence broken eggshells everywhere. Left over tinsel from a christmas decoration, and just general cardboard.
Yes Koolies and Kelpies and being quiet do not mix.

Actually my kelpie is a lounge lizard all she does is moves from one spot to another now the other coolie is another story as long as we are doing training both agility and obedience we are happy if were not look out and she is 9. Xena doesnt appreciate the xmas break. Trials are just about to back on. We have an agility jumping trial this saturday and in Feb we have another agility trial and obedience trial so that will keep both Xena and Inka happy. Also have the empty toilet rolls all over the place torn to shreds and the toys it's like a nursery around this place. Owell another week and Gabby can go back to school. In one club she is already in grade 4 and we will be starting puppy agility as well so that will keep her quiet
cheers
