Our horse family consists of Zack, who is a registered Australian Stock Horse. He is 8 years old and a very tough horse. He is definately not for beginners, but if you can ride he is a smooth mover and very fast on his feet, especially around cattle. He was a polocross player before i bought him, but i don't play so he hasn't done that for a while. Last year before the dreaded EI i took him on an endurance ride in Mudgee and they were all very impressed with his resting heart rate of 28. He is so fat after no work for months, but with the end in sight (we hope) i have started working him in the round yard and getting him ready for some real work soon!

Next is a mare i bought for my younger sister. She is a welsh mountain pony stock horse x. She is a beautiful natured mare and well put together, having just turned 5 she is already great with young riders, but soild enough for nearly anyone to ride. She is now the proud mother of my beautiful foal "Atticus" who was born on the 21st of September 07. He is by a registered black stock horse and i am so happy with the results so far. At four months old he already ties up, has had his feet trimmed, can be bathed, lead off his mother and lunges. Yes i have had quite a bit of time on my hands with EI restricting much other horse work, hence why my little man is halfway broke in and not 6 months yet! Given that though, it is only to keep his mind busy and obviously he is not working hard, just does a few laps each way in the round yard after mum, and he thinks he is SO CLEVER! He has his mums beautiful nature and his fathers stricking looks, although i might be a little bias on that point! What do you think.....? rolleyes.gif

Click to view attachmentYour little sister is extremely lucky to have a big sister like you. Atticus is so pretty and you have done an amazing job with him (especially as he is just a baby) Like you, we haven't been able to do anything with our horses due to EI. The kids aren't really bothered as instead of riding their horses they have been on their motor bikes. Ewan (6) rides an Australian Stock Horse who is an ex polocrosse horse (just a bit partial to stock horses so I think your Zack is beautiful)and Lily (9)rides an Australian Riding Pony x. Has Polly been clipped in the photos? She looks like she is a great all rounder.

I don't know much about horses but they look to be great horses. My grandparents owned a horse (an ex trotter) when I was a kid and he was just a great horse. Although I did a bit of riding when I was younger cos we lived in the country I haven't done it for about 5 or so years now and I am jelous!!! You sister is lucky to have you!!!

No, she hasn't been clipped, i suspect that she has a little bit of Arab in there somewhere cause she has such a great short coat! It is summer though, in winter she gets a fair bit longer. Atticus looks to have the same coat type too.

Yes, i think he will stay Bay! Which is great and was the hope all along, hence choosing the black Stallion, i wanted a soild coloured horse for myself. When he was first born, although bay, lots said he would turn Grey, but not the case! Just lucky i guess!

group.gif lol, i feel the same! Lucky it's raining and i have a good excuse to be inside! Cam and I are painting the hallway (so it will all look good for our visitors!) and i am in between coats! I work at the clinic Thurs, Fri and Sat morn so i have to make the most of today!

Atticus looks a darling!!! He looks nicely put together - but it's a long time since I had any experience with horses. It was always a desire to have one (or two or more) but it didn't happen and life takes you a different course! Polly looks sweet and I love her colouring - what do you call that sort of colouring when it's grey and white? A memory test - brown and white a piebald, black and white a skewbald??

What's that saying about one white foot, two white feet etc for horses?

Atticus looks devine. A very nice looking horse. Polly is beautiful, your sister is very lucky to have a big sister like you. I started asking for a horse when I was 4, finally got one at 30 at the total cost of a $1.00. I have not been doing too much work on her either as I have been building up her bone strength (last foal really took it out of her).

But my favourite of the batch is Zack I like a strong, well built horse. He looks lovely. Tink will be my last horse unless I get lucky with money and buy some land.

Thanks for showing the pictures of your horses.

I have four at the moment and would like to downsize the numbers as it seems that I work to feed my dogs and horses, but who would I chose!!! I have a brown quarterhorse mare called "Muddie", a palomino pinto called "Merlin", a red roan called "Baileys" and an chestnut arab pony called "Dizzy". The grass where I live at the moment is not suitable for horses and although there is acres of it I have to supplement feed them so gets rather expensive to have all home at once. When not raining I ride most mornings taking the dogs for a run before work. We have had so much rain recently I think I will need to invest in gum boots for the horses as well as me!!!

They look like particularly lovely horses.

Do you live near Mudgee? My horse lived just on the outskirts of the town for many years before she came to me.
