koolies - Coolies, One of the friendliest places on the Net... > Koolies > Rainbow Bridge
RachelleBuck
Yesterday Nick (my OH) received the telephone call we all knew was coming but hoped it never would.
His old Norweigan Elkhound Mischa (or mooy as we all called her) had been found in his parents yard, gone to the rainbow bridge.
Mischa was only one week to the day off being 14 years.
2 Years ago we were told by the family vet that she had cancer tumors in her tummy and at best he gave her 6 months. She sure did show him.
Mooy was the worse bloody dog in the world. She always barked at nothing, dug in the garden, ran off when you called her, pinched food and loved to snap at Libby. She was a bloody bitch and she loved her title!!!!
But she was still our Mooy and we loved her every day.
Mooy had been living with Nick's parents for the last 3 years as when Libby was a puppy she tried to bash her to death. Plus Nick's parents missed having a dog around the house!!!
Mooy lived out her last days doing what she loved best sleeping and eating and nothing much more.
We love you mooy and if it wasn't for you I would still have no idea was an Elkhound was. Plus you always made the Koolies look like bloody good dogs!!!
We will miss you, you silly old cow!!!

So sorry for your loss. It is always so hard when you lose a pet it is such a shame that they don't live as long as us. Wow nearly 14 years old thats a great innings.

She looks so well in the photos what a great life she must have had.

She is the first Norweigan Elkhound I have ever seen. So you see she has educated another person.

Our thoughts are with you and Nick.

So sorry RachelleBuck and your OH. I think *naughty* dogs are good for our souls because they teach us about loving someone who doesn't say 'yes, I'll do whatever you want' all the time.
She was very handsome.
shaunagh
Well she sure was a beautiful dog. Sounds like she was a character as well. I guess we love them for their good and their bad, just because they love us I guess.
RachelleBuck
Thank you everyone for your kind words. I had never heard of an Elkhound before I met Nick and Mischa.
She was a sweet old chook and we loved her dearly.
But I am buggered why someone would want one as a pet, they are all naughty dogs!!! d.gif

Got to agree their mate, my brother had one, all that hair and an attitude too, no thank you, but the naughty ones are the ones we all seem to talk about and remember the most or maybe it's the characters.
But love them all we do.
She had a good innings with just about the best people I know, so she did well in life, give hubby a hug and get one yourself.
After a time you could always offer a Koolie to your inlaws, ya never know.
RachelleBuck
The funny part was she lived with the in laws for the last 3 years but always came over when she needed bushing as I was the only one that could make her stand bloody still long enough!!!!

Nick has already tried the whole "maybe you should get a rescue Koolie, you love our guys" but they want another Elkhound, too much money so little brain!!!! LOL

Thanks everyone, we are all feeling a lot better now and she will be coming home to sit in the in laws lounge with the other 2 Elkhound next week in her special box. Pup.gif

It is always sad when we lose a pet out of our lives. And I believe the naughty ones do stay in our memories longer because of all the shanigans that they got up to. How is the in-laws coping with their loss? I have never seen an Elkhound before and you can tell by the photos that Mischa's brain is ticking over "what next huh!".

Thinking of all your family during this time.
RachelleBuck
The in laws are fine. My father in law was in contact with breeders before Micsha died about getting a new pup. We had been waiting for 2 years for that day but she just kept on keeping on.
