Hi Guys
Had the trial last night Xena the coolie dog passed utility 191 points and first place. Inka the border collie will be a dead dog soon was sitting on first place with a great score of 197 points and the bugger layed down in the sit stay. she also passed Utility with 186 points and first place except she lost 7 points on the seek back cause we dropped the article at my feet and than picked it up and decided to be a bugger in the food refusal did the first one correctly and the second one she moved 2 steps and went to stand went oops kept coming gave her the stand command and she sat lost 3 points
The biggest news though is that AG CH OC Xena ADM JDM ADO JDO SD SPDX GDX passed her first elusive leg in UDX. with a score of 184 points and first place being the first dog in SA to gain a leg. Xena is also the first dog in Australia to gain both an Agility and Obedience Champion title. I am so proud of my girl. Just had to tell the world TJ would know how hard being an obedience judge and trialler?
Now I am going to bed as I picked up a virus (what happens with all the partying)I am not well
cheers

Congratulations bet you are a proud parent at the moment.

Hope this isn't a rude question but how long did it take to get your dogs up to that level? With my two I am working on a five year program (Izzy maybe a bit longer).
I hope you will feel better soon.

Thanks for the congratulations. It's not a rude question I can explain a bit more when my brain is here at the moment its not got a huge headache half my face is swollen and my throat is absolutely killing me
My normal thing is my dog is usually in the ring by 14-16 months and by 12 months trialing they have there ud title and normally there Obedience champion title. Dont forget I have trained and I do lots of little bits with my clicker with my puppy so they dont get bored I also dont do lots of class work. I aim alot with focus and than usually everything else falls into place. UDX I had trained Xena during the xmas holidays last year January for something to do as she was a pain she picked it up quickly and I trialled her in March easter weekend and than it wasnt to May her next trial and than we trialed after that at most trials and finally got it. It was very frustrating as she only failed one part of exercise which zeros you
My very first dog that I trialed and didnt know what I was doing took me quite a while 8 years in fact and that was being told I wouldnt get anywhere. In those days you only needed ud and TDX to have an obedience champion It took me 3 months for cd two years cdx (had problems with drop on recall that noone could help me with) 4 years with ud
Got told with first dog 12 months of training 1 year of trialling (failing) and the following year a pass. basically that is what happened. Lots of clubs just want to concentrate on novice work if that is what you are doing when you get that title you go off to open and than do that work. I like doing a variety of stuff that way my girl dont get bored with it. My girls trial every weekend either obedience or agility and they dont get bored. I usually have a lovely treat that they work for which is a bowl of tin cat fish and if they work and pass they get it if they dont they miss out
Little Gabby does all novice and does a flat retrieve drop on recall food refusal sit, stand and drop all with voice command. We are going to learn the dumbbell over jump with half a board and a seek back with the article at the start peg all games of course keeping it exciting.
One other thing is to make sure your finishes are good cause as you get higher you have lots of finishes and if they are crap you can loose up to 2 points and in ud there is 8 finishes which is 16 points so instead of starting 200 you are already on 184 so you can see how important finishes are and heel work as well my dogs are alway on very light line and short so they have to be in the heel position there is nowhere else for them to go since I have adopted this way of training my dogs dont lag
Hope that has helped if you have any other questions I try and help
Good luck with your plan
Going to go back for a snooze

Thanks for the info Danni. The great thing about the classes that I will be going to is their is always a mixed bag of fun basically. Some obediance, smell work (I don't know the correct terminology), agility thrown in each lesson. So the dogs don't get bored. I have one jump set up out back, will be doing some obediance at home today. Starting to finally get organised from the move. And don't worry if I have questions I will post them up!
Now I am going to sound like a nana, drink plenty of fluids and fruit and get plenty of rest. Have you seen a doctor? Done my mothering bit, hope you feel better soon.

No problem Royalla love training and how to get them to work etc except I dont have any room LOL. Hope it works with Grayson. I have to say I do like my girls though. The two boys I have trained were hopeless but all my girls got there obedience champions. so you could be right about the spud farm growing there LOL

Sounds good your class I think the terminology is scent workLOL but it does sound fun. How experience are you trainers? have they competed up at that level? UD?
Get yourself 4 jumps you can do so many exercises on only 4 jumps. Box work threadles serpentines etc good place you has exercises is agility nerd he is on the net and if you can get your hands on Sussann Garrett one jump she has good exercises as well.
No problems Nana, That is what I find hard is to drink cause when I am off in gaga land I just dont drink or eat. Am seeing the docotor this afternoon need a sick certifcate for workLOL everything tastes absolutely disgusting

My trainer has been in the training business for about 7 years, they are in D.O.T.A. She has done courses etc and goes to seminars. Several of her students have gone further to win titles, I don't know which ones because I still am not sure on the terminology (ask me in 12 months I may be more experienced then) lol.
She apparantly is highly qualified, and her last German shephard Flynn was exceptional. I don't know too much do I. lol. All that I know is how I like the way she interacts with dogs and people and her volunteers or trainers under her, are the same.

Hi Ceejay
Just got back from the doctors got a virul infection great.
Just as long as they are teaching you correctly for ring work you will be fine cause you dont want to have it stuffed up to find out it was wrong and than trying to fix it that's all. ie straight sits straight drops heeling close fast finishes quick retrieves etc etc. got to stop rambling

Yes she does all that with the correct finishes, drop straight and sit straight.
You should see one of her pupils work her border collie, amazing to see. Right beside her looking at her, when she stops the dog stops. Does a quick flick of her wrist and the dog finishes. Just quick hand signals. And that is the woman that wants to steal Ceejay. lol. Huge compliement coming from her.

Hi Ceejay
I only got a little bit on video have some on agility. I dont even know how to get it on here anyway as I am pretty useless. I'd see if I can get my friend who does everything for me and see if I can send it to you and you can do with what you like. Dont know when that will happen as my friend is busy as well but she did get a new videa camera as Gabbies brother ate the other one LOL. I wont be going to training this week anyway trying to get better but I will have a word with her
Danni
oops forgot to say she sounds like she knows what she is doing excellent you should go alright since these buggers are too smart just dont keep the training boring but exciting and interesting

Hey CJ you may want to purchase an Obedience/Agility and tracking rule book from your state, that way you will at least get a gist of what is expected when you do trial.
They are not very expencive and you can get them mailed to you, I don't even think you have to be a member of your canine control to obtain them.
Hey Danni hope your feeling better soon, take lots of fluids and flush it out.

Feb 26 2008, 10:48 AM
Thanks TJ will do that. I have filled out the forms to join CCCQ with the dogs registration, but like everything else, it is in one of the boxes scattered around here. lol.
My house is up for auction and now is on the internet, exciting times. My first house that I bought I am now selling well over double the price that I bought it for and that is only 3 years ago.
Danni yes I tend to agree about the trainer and the training how she doesn't make it boring for the lesson. My girls tend to pick up things quickly and then get bored with it quickly. lol. I still believe that the girls have some form of ADHD. lol.

Just got back from our obedience trial. Xena just got her second pass in UDX YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEE with a score of 178 points and first place (got a substantial in her towel exercise and lost 9 points). Also had her in UD and got 192 points and first place. Her sister Inka got 181 points and second place in ud and a great score of 197 points and first place in open. I am so excited since I spent all of last year failing just one exercise that I have actually passed 2 on the trot yipee.
going to go to bed now and need some sleep

Congratulations! What's the towel exercise?
How many passes do you need for UDX?
dannimilo
Mar 2 2008, 05:30 PM
Hi Kooliemum
The towel exercise is that you have 8 towels on the ground (25x25)folded in half and rolled with rubberbands (coloured rubberbands) they dont have any scent on. They are layed out in a line or however the judge wants it. The judge scents 2 other towles. I am facing away from them they put one of the judges scent towel in the pile. I about turn judge hands me the towel I show the dog and tell her to sniff and she goes out to the pile and looks for the judges scent. She picked up the wrong one which cost me a substantial. It does get confusing as the ud class you have wood metal and leather and the dog has to ignore anybody elses scent and get my scent.
Hope that help
cheers
Danni
You do need 3 passes in udx which is like in all classes except obedience champion title which is 5 passes with 185 points or above. You also need 2 different judges as well.
cheers

, well the news Im putting on seem's pretty pathetic compared to yours, I'm in awe of your achievements, but here it is any way, Izzi got her certificate of graduation last night she passed from begginers to grade 1

, gotta start some where & she's only 6 months old. Now for the real exciting stuff, on Thursday night I've got a trainer coming out to help me, she's got a level IV certificate & her name's Alexis, I've also enrolled in her class in Mt Barker so am very excited

. After reading all your dog achievements think I'll just stick to walking my dogs

& forget about Obedience & Agility, Izzi would be fine but not sure I would be up to it. Keep telling us about your dogs I love raeding about them.

Dont know what happened there. but I'll continue on it does get easier as the dog gets older and more mature. The coolies are very smart. You'll enjoy it. The name does ring a bell.
Sunday we have the agility teams challenge held at SACA park and all the interstaters are coming over to compete in it. Its the best 4 from each team. Unfortunately Xena isnt in it and she was naughty when the heats were on but my border collie Inka is in it so it will be interesting.
You keep at it Dogz6 still like to hear your accomplishments and everybody elses

now can't wait for Thursday as well.
Here's a quick list of my good stuff, a full team for the 100km walk, Izzi graduating, Alexis coming, fence going up & picking Pebbles up Saturday, AAAHH lifes good. Ok it doesn't take much to amuse me.

Hi Guys
Well on the Sunday were we had 40 degrees temp we had our Advance Team Challenge held in Adelaide. To get in the team you had to compete in certain master agility trials and place and you get so many points. At the end of the year the 4 with the most points got an ivitation to compete. All states did this and they all came over for the weekend. I was in with my border collie Inka representing South Australia. Xena didnt get in as she was naughty in her heats (coolie being naughty?) Anyway SA won it was just brilliant. We got a trophy and a cool coat.
The next day we had our agility trial another 40 degrees arghhhhhhhhh
Xena passed 2 out of 5 two of those she was naughty and the other fail she got out of stride and dropped the bar. Xena got a third and fourth in two of her classes and that was competing with some of the best dogs in Australia. Inka passed 4 out of 6 and got third a fifth a10th and 12th. My two bad ranking she had blonde moments which cost us a few seconds which put me into that ranking slot and if she didnt do that we would have been much higher. The two fails that she had done was a missed contact and a dropped bar.
I was very proud of my girls and how they worked competing with the best of the best and working in this heat with there mum suffering from the heat.
Also Linda did a very good job sitting out in the heat doing the timings and sorting out the people and not getting to see some of the brilliant runs and handling of these people they were awesome

For them and you to work in that heat amazes me. I am sooo glad that we have seemed to have skipped summer here. The nights are getting cool already and the days have been great, a lovely breeze during the day.

A bit late in making a comment but had to say I had the pleasure of watching Danni and the SA team compete against some of the best agility dog teams in Australia and it was awesome to watch all those dogs and handlers in action, I didn't know SA had won until 11pm that night when Danni let me know!! Good job I didn't need my beauty sleep(ha) but was so happy for the SA team
As Danni mentioned I stewarded Masters the next day in that lovely heat(39C), but in between timing etc I managed to see some of the best runs of the day and it was wonderful to watch. Needless to say can't wait to get back into the competition when Ash is ready (another 12 months or so)he is coming along great, can't believe how quick he is picking everything up. whether I will be able to keep up with him is another matter!!
Also loved the pic of Izzi & her graduation certificate.
By the time you read this Danni I am hoping to have heard you've gotten your 3rd leg of UDX at Mount Gambier!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers
