Hi there.

In my quest to find a new koolie puppy I stumbled across the Koolie Club of Australia and this forum.

I lost my 11 year old koolie earlier this year.

Casey was rescued from an unwanted litter where she was not destined to live out the day. After a week she made her way to me. I was successful in raising her on the bottle and she grew into a beautiful dog.(Well, she was always beautiful but I was her mother and somewhat biased) She was very active and enthusiastic and a bit of a handful as a youngster. But she had such a great personality - which I now know is a trademark of the breed.

When Case was 1 we joined the local dog club and did obedience (yawn) and then flyball. Now there was a bit of fun! This was in the days when flyball was pretty new to Australia and our club was enthusiastic at the time. We travelled to Canberra and the Sydney Royal a couple of times. Casey was one of the most recognisable (and vocal) flyball dogs around. But as often happens in a small club, things got a bit political and the flyball fizzled out.

Life became a bit quieter for us. Along came marriage and then kids. Case saw the kids as an extra source of pats and would sit by the babies' feet and wait for them to brush their feet against her. The kids loved her too.

Anyway, now we are ready for a new koolie in our lives. If anyone out there knows of a nice female puppy that needs a home and is not too expensive or preferably not too far from the far south coast of NSW, please let me know

A huge welcome to the Koolie Club and sorry to hear of your loss of Casey...

I am sure that you will come across another adorable Koolie to join your family. I know what you mean about costs and so on, I had to fly my Koolie Klan from Victoria, NSW and Brisbane as we don't have any locally this far north.

Hope you enjoy the Forum.

Welcome!!! welcome2.gif
I'm sure you'll enjoy this forum - everyone is very friendly and you can talk about koolies til the cows come home (or they don't)!!!!

Sorry to hear of your loss of Casey. I'm sure you'll hear of a litter of pups from someone soon!

Hi and Welcome. I am very sorry to hear about Casey. We lost our old bully cross a few days before xmas so I can understand how devastated you must be. We got our first Koolie just after Australia day this year. He was a rescue too. I agree, they have such a fantastic personality, I will always have one now.

Flyball sounds like a lot of fun. What is it exactly?

Look forward to chatting with you.

Welcome, sharongmur. Sorry about Casey, 11 isn't nearly old enough to lose them, is it?

I think you'll like this forum, though. Glad you're here.

welcome2.gif I am sure a little Koolie pup or dog will come into your life somehow. I drove from central coast of Queensland down to the border of Victoria to get my girl, my first Koolie and will never look back with this breed.

So sorry to hear about Casey, it is never easy when you lose a loved one that has been cherished like she has. The hardest part is that we get left behind all the time, as I was saying to one of my friends this morning I wish dogs had a similar life span to ours. Here is a hug for you group.gif

Enjoy this forum and join in on any ramblings that are constantly on the go.

welcome2.gif Sharongmur, great to see you found the forum, I hope you really enjoy it and feel comfortable to take a deep breath a dive in amongst all the chatter. I have a feeling there will be a little friend heading your way soon!

Welcome to the forum. I know someone who has some puppies due soon - they are near Canberra if that is close enough. Otherwise there is a lovely rescue boy down at Bateman's Bay. There are some photos of him (his name is Dulux) on the forum.

My friends Koolie is due to whelp on the 5th of May. (Hunterslea Koolies) Mighty fine puppies own two myself. Has a few orders already but believes there will be some spare puppies. We are situated in the Hunter Valley but usually can get them transported by friends to various destinations. Will work, excellent pets or agility. The father (Rip) is also the father of Singleton district high jump champ. Usually all merle litter. Rip is red merle and mum (Shelley is a blue merle)Will post a picture in community corner.

Thankyou everyone for your warm welcome. Your sympathies about Casey are very much appreciated. I now have 3 options for a new puppy so things are looking good. Thankyou for your help.

Sorry to hear of your loss, these Koolies do take a big chunk of our hearts with them when they go, but they do leave such wonderful memories.

Have you ever thought of adopting a slightly older Koolie.

We will give you every opportunity to locate your next best mate.

Koolie rescue have some beautiful Koolies looking for new homes.

We have a male and female Koolie one year old just breaking their necks for a second chance at the life they deserve.

Here are their photos.
Out of that awkward puppy stage, but still full of puppy attitude.
Perfect for Agility and possibly work, lovely and willing nature terrific for easy training.
As with all resceus they are desexed, micro-chipped, vacinated, regularly wormed and on flea treament and have been vet and temperment checked.

Copper is still in the shelter so will cost $230
Interested drop me a PM.
We can help with transport but please give it a think as we are traveling to Nsw this weekend and the transport opportunity will be gone.
KoolieMum
What gorgeous pups, Tj, Copper appeals to me especially - he looks fairly small and lightly built for a 1 yr old? (Not, mind you, that I'm in the market for a no. 2.)

welcome2.gif I am sure you will have fun here.
I can not recommend a rescue enough, they are very rewarding dogs and become part of the family in a heart beat!!

(Trust me I have one that was only staying a week for transport and he is still with us 5 months later!!)

I have thought about a rescue dog but I really want a baby puppy this time. The chance for a puppy comes by once in a blue moon. I am following up the lead in Canberra first because they are closer. I hope you find homes for those rescue dogs soon. They really are beautiful.

God I'll take Maggie in a heart beat but I think my husband would kill me though he thinks Gabby is enough. Dont blame him though she is a handful though.
TJ is Maggie a very quiet dog or is she a hypher girl. I have a friend from club who is looking for one but she wants one that is hyper not sensitive to do both obedience and agility. PM me for some more information so I can give it too her tomorrow with all the bits of info to give her thanks TJ but Maggie ohhhhh (told you I am a sucker for blue merles)
cheers

Is ticking very common in Koolies?
I hadn't ever noticed it before a few months ago when I saw the little assistance dog on the train. But Maggie's got it. According to the phenotype predictor ticking is dominant to no-ticking, so a dog will only need one parent with ticking to have it, and it can't sneak in under the radar.
Maggie looks familiar - she's not from that litter with the light undercoats we talked about a while ago is she?? For some reason she makes me think of them.

There is something really special about raising a puppy, isn't there? I'm desperate for one, because I've been researching and thinking about behaviour for yrs and have a partic interest in development, and bought my last pup 16yrs ago! (and didn't do the best job with her then).

Tjukurpa
Thanks for the PM guys, most Koolie or Koolie X which look this good don't stick around very long.
Copper is hopefully off to Adelaide and Maggie is off to acres in Vic for Agility, but your well wishes and support have been great.

Both Koolie’s have shown great steadiness and friendliness, no problems around other dogs and as usual just love human contact.
Maggie appeared timid at first but this soon disappeared as she settled down and got to know the guys at the shelter.
I'll let you know more when she arrives here tomorrow night, she is staying with my mum in town until we return on Sunday, then she will get to know the mob out here, and her new owner will pop up next weekend.
All going well she will like him and go for her one month trial period.

Will keep you all up to date on how they get on.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, you can have it back now sharongmur

I think I'm a mum! There was a litter of puppies born just the other day and one of them has my name on it. Just what I was looking for. A little girl not too far from where I live. Yay! 8 weeks is such a long time to wait but I do have the promise of more photos as she grows up.
Bluedog
How exciting for you!! What colour coat has she got!! Don't worry those eight weeks will soon zoom by for you! I look forward to the photos! Will they let you take some over the next few weeks so you can have progress photos?
Tjukurpa
Was mum Sheringa Minya and Shering Rex.
If so he fathered our current litter now all gone to their new families.
They were just the best and brightest puppies.
You will be very happy if you got your little girl from that litter.
Did you take the red merle girl, she is so stunning so like her mum, grandma and great grandpa.
They don't fall far from the tree that line

Lucky you, don't forget to post her photo Diello.gif
sharongmur
She's a blue merle. She's not far from here but it's still 2 hours away so the only photos I have are what the breeder is taking for me. The breeder has promised to send me more as she grows up. I don't want to jinx anything by posting any photos just yet, but maybe in a couple of weeks I will ask the breeder if it's OK to use some of her photos. But don't worry, I'm sure I will take plenty of photos when I get her so you will see photos soon enough.
sharongmur
Yes Tjukurpa, it IS Rex's and Minya's litter. The red one is a boy and I really wanted a girl, so it's the blue one for me. (There is also a black girl by the way).
I agree. Minya is stunning so I'm sure they all will be. Rex looks lovely too.
Tjukurpa
Be prepared for lots of active days ahead.
The little solid is staying behind, I wonder who will be lucky to have the boy.

Can't wait to see more of them.

If you want to see their whole family line let us know.
sharongmur
I would love to see more of the family! No hurry, though
Ceejay
Congratulations on your soon to be new addition. You will be surprised how all the puppy stuff that you have learnt comes back. Waiting in anticipation for the photos of your little girl. They are such a delight the Koolies.
JackieH
I can't wait to see the puppy photos as Minya is Poppy's sister so I will be able to get a sneak preview of what her puppies will one day look like!!
scouserdog
Sharon, I met your new puppy today - she is just gorgeous as is her black sister. I think you are going to be delighted with her.
sharongmur
Only 1 1/2 weeks to go. I can't wait to meet her. She is such a cutie in her photos. And I've been told that she is very affectionate. Sigh! Counting down the days.
scouserdog
She is soft, snuggly and has beautiful markings and is interested in everyone and everything.
JackieH
Now I think I have my timeing right .... pickies of the new puppy??? I'm excited to see my girl's grandaughter and niece!!!
Tjukurpa
oooh yes please, she will have grown so much by now. Diello.gif
Great granddaugter for us
sharongmur
We had a big weekend getting Toby's plaster off in Canberra and picking up Dyna. I have been flat out since we got back so no piccies yet. Soon, I promise. Dyna is settling in well and has already learnt to sit if she wants attention instead of jumping up - well, pretty much anyway. We all love her.
