If all goes well we're hoping for a small litter of mostly reds/red merles (strong red behind Shay) that has excellent working ability & temperament.

Hey great news Snowview, can't wait for the pics.
Shay may surprise you and produce a dark one like her.
Good luck hope all goes well.
Be sure to get in your litter notice so I can put them in the newsletter.
Just download it from the club site and send it to the regitrar.

Mum and Dad both look beautiful. There should be some lovely puppies if all goes according to plan. Look forward to the baby photos down the track.

TJ I'm expecting some darks/blues & red/blue mixes in this litter but hoping to dominate the red for the next generation rather than have a rainbow mix d.gif

Shay comes from a red merle dad & a tri merle/irish trim mum but most of her litter was rich chocolate or reds so hoping to carry that through in this litter ontop of what I think is a great match in working ability & type.

Just hoping we have a much smaller litter this time dogwalk.gif

And sharongmur, they'll be cousins to your pup (Red is Minya's full brother, I think - although I'm pretty sure not from the same litter).

Kewl!

he sure is, he's from the Tj Kool Bo X Tj Kool Speckie litter.

Shay comes from lines incluing Willys, Gradys, Widdows, Madigans, Seafoam & Celic.....which from what I've been told is a mix of some good lines.

congrats Royalla, that should be a nice litter beer.gif (who is Summa by? I'm vague)

Tj Kool Red is related to our Red through Dot.

I have a Tj Kool Red daughter here & she's a nice bitch.
royalla
i am hoping that it is a good mix Summa is out of Brescot Dusty (red merle) and sired by Hunterslea Gundy also a red merle.

What an amazing litter that was, produced such a bunch of beautiful dogs.

just letting you know we've had successful matings & she should be due end of July.

We had feared Red wasn't going to do the deed but he finally got his act together when we were about to replace him with another male as we were running out of time with her. But all is going well so fingers crossed.
Tjukurpa
Hey Snowview great news you must be so relieved, your plans are up and going, look forward to seeing your results.

I on the other hand have had an unexpected surprise when our bitch who had been separated along with the other intact females, from the intact males produced 6 beautiful pups, five girls and one boy who is a lovely red and white of the girls she had 3 blue merles exactly like herself and two blacks and they are thriving.

The only male who could be the father is your boy Snowview, Drover they do grow too fast, we have taken DNA to confirm it but he was the only male in with them.

I'll pop up some pic when things settle down, unfortunately Dot has reached that time in her life where her body is breaking down, she has an inflamed pancreas as well as kidney dysfunction, so she is comfortable and happy and on medication and a special diet, but inevitably her time is not far off.
She will be joining those at the bridge and we will be devastated, she is just the most perfect Koolie who has had such a wonderful impact upon our bloodline.

Sorry for pinching the thread, but I knew Snowview and the others would want to know

sharongmur
Congrats mushoz on your ppt. Also congrats to Tjukurpa on your puppies.

yes Red had us doubting that he was going to work, no interest at all until suddenly deciding what those dangly things bewteen his legs were telling his brain, so phew for that. We were going to use Wyatt, but really didn't want to as we want shays litter to go over jill/indas pups.

Oh TJ, what a surprise for you....please send me pics! Sorry to hear about Dot, we just went through a situation with a horse where we had to make that decision & it's such a hard one but you know when it's time & you've done all you can.

Unexpected litters must be contagious... My blue ACD who was not supposed to be in pup is getting very LARGE. Red did dig a hole into their pen when she first started to come in season, but we thought he was too early, perhaps we were mistaken. I guess we will know in a couple of weeks. d.gif

Best of luck with the new litter Mushoz.

I remember hearing something a while back that might have been an old wive's tale but it sounds right to me - that when the dog and bitch choose each other and mate despite attempts to not let it happen, the pups are often all the more spectacular, healthy and vigorous, because they are more likely to be genetically suited to each other. Although perhaps its a different story if they're a pair that's been bred to each other before (not that they mightn't be genetically suited in that case). Remember maybe 15 yrs ago the winner of Westminster was a Scottie who was the result of an accidental mating - the breeder had picked out a very different dog to breed to the bitch, bet she ended up really glad things didn't go according to plan. And an Akita breeder telling a story about a bitch that she just couldn't get to accept a mate until she chose one herself and the litter was the healthiest and soundest she'd bred and she'd been doing it for a while. (Although maybe that isn't any proof, because Akitas could possibly form pair bonds more like wolves than dogs usually do.)

Mikki's bond with Red is special as she WILL not accept any other male dog than Red. As she is blue I have tried many other blue ACD males with no luck. She will just growl and hide under the car or where ever she can at any point in her season. But with red it was love at first season. Normally she will not play at all with him and will actually walk out of the room when he comes in. But when she is in season she will totally ignore me and spend the whole week outside playing with him. Then she just switches off and ignores him again.

She has only just had puppies in November last year so was not allowed to have puppies until maybe next season, but I had to go to work and I left the two girls that were season in the dog pen and left instructions with my OH to leave Red on the chain just in case and that I would be taking the girls home with me in the afternoon.

But my OH had other ideas and thought I was exagerating about what boys were capable of and let Red off to run in the back yard.... well!!! you can guess what happened next.

But we still thought it was too early as she had only just come in season the day before.

But anyway where there is a will there is a way.

My advise to breeders is to pretend that you don't want the mating to happen. Then it's sure to lol.

Mikki's behaviour sounds like what I think might be typical Akita behaviour (sorry Mikki, hope you don't take as an insult;-).
