Beautiful Puppies! I agree, lots of trouble! But surely worth it!!

In another way they keep each other company and play together so they tend to 'sometimes' get into less mischief... I was a bit like Royalla I had the three girls at the same age and time, I admit that Harley had to go live at my OH's place for six weeks or so to separate the demons, but after than all was well.

There are significant challenges with raising 2 pups together, you need to be quite deliberate about some of the things you do to reduce the risks. What you did with sending one away for a while, JackieH, was probably the perfect thing.

The difficulties tend to be that they develop very strong dependencies on each other, resulting in separation related distress when they have to be separated. So from when they are young, they need to spend lots of time apart, both at home and when they go out. They should go to separate puppy classes for example. Owners need to put special effort into building a really strong bond with each separately.

Some of the Canine Associations have recently had an article by a Delta trainer, Donna Marchiori, who is into BCs and Maremmas (I think she knows the most about Maremmas of anyone I've ever read or talked to). I haven't actually been able to get a hold of it yet, but from what I've heard about it, she takes the stance that generally an ethical breeder ought not sell multiple pups to one home.

hey Danni
and yep double trouble ...the first time I have ever bought two home ..had two of my maremma pups for a while but as said there are problems at time to time and rehomed one . They come from cressy way here in tassie , I just couldn't make my mind up so went back and got the other one lol mmm they are bathed already this morning and i have to admit they are rather good considering there's two lol two piddles ect but it's getting less frequent probably cause I spend loads of timeout and about , still worry about them getting trampled by the horses , Minty loves them , anyways better go

challenges for sure lol my maremma's were actually really good i found lili had more trouble when her sire died and then there were seperation problems mind you she's loving Minti and Jaspa ......they can be a bit grrrr at times but patience is a must , my daughter does alot of work with jaspa and Minti sorta is with me most of the time as is Jellybean , they are very different , personality wise , and I have always said that Maremma's are born with a brain ,,incredible dogs , but i was amazed when Minti and Jaspa both slept when getting their needle ....mmmm very quiet pups but when they wanna get around boy they can move ....I do agree with Donna ....but there's always that one acception to any rule

Yes well worth the trouble ......they are wonderful ..still working on the traveling and they are getting better ..bathing needs a little work lol but they have had alot to go throught lately , needles re- worming learning what uhuh means and the odd nooooooo ...but least they are not even tempted to go after the truck when it leaves ..i just say sssshhhh be still and they sit and wait , now thats a couple of clever pups ..Minti really likes the ducks lol just wandering around with me when i'm rousing them back into the pen and her fav thing is tirramisu my little mare ..Jaspa seems intimidated by the horses ...but loves the calves ...every morning they go for piddles and wait for me to head up and feed the calves there's the 4 of us the maremma sharp-ei and two koolies lmao quite a family ''anyway cheers for now and stay tuned for the next update .....your gonna get soooooo sick of my rambling

I'm glad that they are spending plenty of time apart, that will really help. (And that you have a boy and a girl.) Can't remember if you've told us this, if you have, sorry - do you want them to do herding when older?
Bluedog
When the behaviouralist gave a talk the other day he said one of the worst things was to get litter mates!! Dependency, sibling rivalry, same age problems etc!! He said a difference of 3 years and a different breed and sex is best if dogs are to get on. But I do think the way you treat them and raise them would have a lot to do with how they adjust and develop.

Yes I have a boy and girl lol I'd like them to herd ....but we will see lol they are pretty smart little dogs , they hang out together but do different activities apart ...however they do still sleep together , so we'll see .

Yes i understand where the behavouralist oops spelt wrong ...was comming from . however I disagree with the age difference as once they get older the alpha male mostly will not allow another male on the property of course alot of females are the same unless it's a pup , depending on how they are raised ,breed ect , I don't want to breed so desexing comes into it to i'm still tossing up over that one hmmm what do you reckon , I've always desexed my males `but I have bit of time to think of course my O.H doesn't want Jaspa to be done grrrrr men ..anyway thanks for that info

Definitely - it's three xs as much work as one pup...and not very many ppl do it. If they have bought the pups to be company for each other then you can almost count on them not doing it.

That would be very atypical behaviour for a Koolie, maybe not so strange in a Maremma (in which case it would anyway be the case that the dog was guarding and indicating a level of anxiety about other dogs, rather than that there was any hierarchy stuff going on).

Just read an interesting comment by the above mentioned Donna on another list (this discussion is going on in several places, it seems) that separating pups at home is less important than taking them out a lot as if they are '2 separate' pups. That separating them at home might result in frustration behaviour - so what is happening with your 2 Karen seems ideal - that they are off with different ppl doing different things, so the tendency to be frustrated because the other is with 'their person' is reduced.

Uuuummmmm o'k not sure how to put pics up in the web . The lines I'm not sure of am waiting patiently for the breeder ton get back to me not that it was very important at teh time of receiving pups as I have no intention of breeding . The girl Minti has a blue chip in the right eye she has less black markings and more white on chest ....also the smaller of the two ....Jaspa is bigger and has the black patch over the left ear lol um different collars and jaspa has a black tail with a white tip hehehehe does that help identifying them

We have started taking jaspa in the car on his own lots and he's more settled than Minti ......she's very lively in the car/ute can't wait for them to be big enough to be tied on the back , little monsters , took Jaspa into town and not even a slobber , master dustin who's 13 took them both in the old ute around when getting wood yesterday and gave Minti back to me lmao and danielle is taking minti today ......they are getting lanky and long now ...

not sure how to put pics up in the web .
It's a bit convoluted, but this is what I do...
reduce the size a bit (a lot) so that they don't take too long to load,
upload them to www.photobucket.com or similar,
click on the img code that will appear under each picture, so that you see it say 'copied' in a yellow box
paste it into your message.
Then the pics will appear directly in your message, which I personally always prefer (as long as they aren't too big) rather than having to click on each to download them. If they're big though, when you're in a rush and want to look at new messages, the messages keep moving down the screen as the pics open. grrrr...

I'd especially like to know who their father is as he looks adorable (from the one pic I've seen of him).
