Hi there, I am a new member of the forum and having some trouble finding out how to add photos. Anyway I will introduce my koolies and supply photos later. I am living in a house on a sheep farm near Rye Park NSW and its a lovely setting to have my koolies and other assorted dogs and close to Binalong and Yass where we go for sheep dog training. I began my journey with dogs when I lived in the city many years ago with two Aussie terriers (Jessie and Geordie), then I moved to the country and got a kelpie to do sheep work (Lass). I still have them all along with an elderly but fiesty mini foxie whose owner went into a nursing home.

In recent years I discovered koolies and of course fell in love with them. They are such affectionate and intelligent dogs and they get along with the other dogs so well. I started with a blue merle female (Skye) but unfortunately she was bitten by a snake (who was living under the garage) and she died last year. I was so shocked at losing her when she was just starting to enjoy life - she had come from a neglected background and her rehabilitation took many months. I then found a red merle female (Minya) via the internet. I was fortunate to get her as she was going to New Zealand until that arrangement fell through. Meanwhile I also came across a young blue merle male in the local pound (Chester) and he was the male image of Skye and so I just had to have him too. I'm just a sucker I suppose. Chester is a pocket rocket and he does three laps of the paddock before I get out the gate to go for a walk. Minya is more refined and sedate. Both love working sheep when we get the chance.

To finish the story off Minya had three pups on 17th April this year to a dog called Rex; a blue merle female, a red merle male and a black female. Both the merles have gone to lovely homes and I am still looking for a home for the black pup (Karli). She is a great little pup with a lovely gentle nature.

Someone who's cleverer than I will tell you how to add photos! Can't wait to see them though! Do your dogs work stock at all? Hope you've got some photos of the pups too! Hope you enjoy the forum!!

You have quite a menagerie there, I am sure that they all get on fine. I have two dogs too, one is a calm and composed girl and the other is...well she is just a total dag of a dog. They all have their different personalities. Look forward to seeing your photos when someone that is computer orientated shows you how it is done. Feel welcome to join in our many and varied discussions, you will find this is a great little forum.

Sorry to hear about your dog, Skye, it is a tragedy when we lose them so young.

Hey FlyingDog, Welcome to the forum!
Your dogs sound wonderful. I'd love to see some pics.
Do you have a photobucket account? If you don't, register there and then upload some resized photos of your koolies.
Once you have done that you copy the IMG Code

and then paste it into your message.
Hope this helps.. It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it. surprised1.gif

Hey cousin, welcome, the family's growing.

Ceejay your girl is related to Minya as is Red Royalla.
There is a section on the forum under assistance to help understand how to load photos.

I'd love to see them working, hope your coming to Binalong in August, I also hope that a couple more from Vic can make it.

Make yourself at home and enjoy getting to know everyone. Diello.gif

Welcome to the forum at last Flyingdog. I hope you enjoy it here. For anyone who hasn't put 2 and 2 together, Minya is my Dyna's mum and Karli is Dyna's littermate. I would love to see more photo's of Karli. She must be getting big now.
Flyingdog
Hi everyone and thankyou for warm welcome and the photo advice - I like doggy photos and will attempt to get some on this reply. thanx.gif

I have certainly enjoyed being a member of the Koolie club and it seems that it is a big family - many of you know Minya or have a koolie from the same line which is great. Here she is enjoying some morning sun.

We couldn't get any information about Chester from the pound however I soon worked out why he was there. There is no fence high enough to keep him in and he is a high energy dog - not suitable for the suburbs but luckily he has fallen on his feet now with 1,000 acres to explore. I have had a DNA test done and it will be interesting to see if his origins are known.

I have also built an agility course mostly out of second hand materials and am using that as a training tool as they love a challenge or perhaps the treats that go with it. Here is a photo from when we were building the agility course. Chester is taking my partner's grandson for a test drive.

I do have a menagerie of dogs and here is a photo of most of them sitting in their favourite spot - the back of the ute. From the back is Chester, Minya, Lass and in front is Geordie and Jessie. My interest is working sheep, however we dont have stock work since my partner hurt his back and had to retire but I am lucky to have access to sheep dog training in Yass and Binalong. The koolies have had little to no sheep experience but they are both very keen.

Minya's puppies were just georgeous. I took lots of photos and here is an early one.

They grew up so fast. Here is Reg the red merle male who has beautiful blue eyes. He went to Melbourne.

The two girls - Dyna and Karli at 7 weeks. "Hi Sharongmur - Dyna's mum".

And last is a recent photo of Karli. She is standing still watching Rex the horse, not sure quite what to do next.

Its great to see that the photo loading was successful - hope you enjoyed them.

Great looking dogs! Minya looks so much like JackieH's Chevy and she has a similar shaped body to our Darcy. Chester looks very happy. And those puppies are sooo sweet!
I love that photo of all the dogs in the ute by the way ThumbUP.gif
Ceejay
Looking at Minya she has a very similar body shape to Ceejay which makes sense as they are related.

IPB Image
She has darkened up in her coat since this photo was taken.

I also like Chester very alert boy. And I do have a soft spot for Kelpies especially the dark and tan ones like Lass. Izzy my other girl is a kelpie x cattle dog and is dark with tan points. Only spot of cattle dog is on the chest.

I will enjoy seeing new photos of your dogs and their many antics that I am sure that they get up to. Are your terriers good at ratting at all? Just curious. They look like double trouble, are they of similar ages at all?

You certainly do have a wonderful electic mix of dogs there.
Flyingdog
I agree, Ceejay is so like Minya in shape and even in the facial expression. Ceejay is lovely - very striking colours!

The two terriers are three years apart in age. Geordie is a red Aussie from Brisbane and Jessie is a black and tan Aussie from Boorowa. They have been great friends from the start - thick as thieves. Jessie will chase anything that moves but I dont think she has ever caught anything herself. Geordie is more selective. He became a ball addict at an early age. (He was my first pup and I dont introduce balls to pups any more). He had a few injuries and one knee operation over the years. We dont often play ball as he is now 13 years old and finds it difficult to see the ball plus he is so reckless that he will injure himself. Funnily enough the dogs always play as a team. Lass is fastest and she runs and picks up the ball, Chester chases Lass. Lass drops the ball to Geordie who then takes it to Jessie and she brings it back to me...

Last but not least our two elderly dogs who didn't want to be left out of the intro. Trixie worked stock in her youth - I dont know what breed you would call her- she now has a life of leisure catching the odd bunny or two.

Bonnie may be small but she is the boss of the dogs.

Welcome and thanks for the pics, very nice dogs indeed, they are lovely. Absolutely love the one of little Bonnie, i can visualize her being bossy too.

Hi and welcome2.gif
You dogs look great, I and sure you will love it hear!!!
Ceejay
Bonnie has the eyebrows and beard of a chinese wise man, so that probably explains why she is the boss. I love the coat on her too, very cute.
KoolieMum
Hi and welcome FlyingDog. What a great looking bunch of dogs. Karli looks exquisite.
Penny Nalder
Hi Flyingdog, I'm Penny, from New Zealand, I also have a relative, My very first Koolie - I waited a long time to find the breed I wanted, and what seemed like forever to get my puppy!

My wee boy is Tjukurpa Kool Dice, usually known as guess what?? Dice! also Dicey dog, and Ringo the Dingo!
He is a littermate of Royalla's Komo.

Here's a photo of him and one of my 3 Welsh Springers, Ashley.

and his cute little face :-)

Right now, 10.30pm, he is trying very hard to get me to stop and play with him. He has tried 4 different toys so far, he keeps bringing them and pushing them on my knee. Talk about the energiser bunny. You wouldn't think he had already had a good long walk today.

Your Minya is lovely, I am so getting a red merle next koolie... I love Dice to bits, but really want a red...
Flyingdog
Hello Penny, great to see your new pup Dice - he is just georgeous as is Ashley. You have lovely lush green grass - ours is short because of the drought. It took me a long time before I found the koolie breed as well. I too like the red merles and so was pleased to find Minya who has a lovely nature and looks to match - at least I think so.
