I was getting dinner prepared on Saturday night, and noticed my cat Salem was frothing at the mouth. First thought toad! Grabbed said cat and held him by the scruff and turned on the kitchen tap and held him down sideways to wash out his mouth. The result a nasty cat bite punctured right through my pointer finger. The frothing was caused by those spot treatments for fleas and worms, I didn't get it right in the middle of his shoulder blades and he must of ingested a bit of it. Is there any other spots on cats that they cannot reach, would it be safer for him and me to place it behind his neck next time?
royalla
yes just below the base of the skull dead center if you watch your cat the next time he use's his paws to wash behind his ears you will see the spot that they all miss
P.S that was a silly move lol always face the cat away from you hold it by the scruf and one hand over the hips so it can't twist and place a rolled up towl in front of it so it can sink it's claws into that and not you or get a man wearing welding gloves to hold on to all 4 legs, and please go to the doctor and get that bite checked cats bites are very bad

I was holding him away from me, and Jeff had a hold of his paws and I held down his rump with my elbow, but he just turned his mouth a bit and connected with my fingers. It is healing up nicely, not as sore and the redness is going away now. I was so worried about the claws I forgot about the fangs. lol. Just glad he is only a small cat imagine the damage if it was one of those 20kg maine coon cats. cat.gif

Dont worry I have done the exact same thing except I had to do it n my own it was from the spot on stuff aswell if they ingest it make s them froth at the mouth but no other side effect. My cat dug her fangs into my arm as I thought I had it ok but abviously didnt and in a panic you dont think about the fangs you only think claws. My arm took ages to heal and was sore for ages and had to go to the dor and get anti bugs but all ended ok. Royalla has hit the solution on the head and there is a spot just at the bottom of the skull that they dont reach but I also find that i do do it in between the shoulder blades but I really make sure that i split apart the fur really well so I get nothing but skin really and then if the fur isnt wet then they dont seem to bother about it. SO when you let go of the fur it will cover the wet spot and you wont get the cat wanting to lick it. It works for me but I am not saying it will work for everyone it wold depend on the length of the cats fur but then my cat was pretty fluffy and the other is short haired so I have both. But yes the bottm of the skull is good. I have just got another kitten so will see how he goes really yes I didnt get another dog but I was a sucker for a kitten that looked exactly like a cat I had when I was 4 and he got bitten by a snake when I was 11. So this one has replaced a long time heart ache so will see how I go really. Sorry I have babbled. Spot on is very good for fleas and I havent had much else that works aswell so have tried most things to eliminate the chance of them ingesting it. Try everything. Even just using a hairdryer maybe on cool to dry area cause I think they play with it cause it is wet or feed them and try and distract them some how for a bit

That sounds a bit ouchy Ceejay!! Please watch the bite, they can sneak up on you these bites and scratches. Cats can move inside their skin which makes it very hard to really hold them down, I'm sure there's a technical name for it but I don't know it!lol! I've had to scruff cats in the past both behind the neck and just in front of the tail (semi ferals) and it was still no guarantee that they wouldn't get you! Little buggers are very determined - a pillow slip with stocking around the neck is good too when desperate. I usually put flea stuff up high btwn shoulder blades near base of neck. I usually try to feed her straight after as she is a pig and loves her food and this will soothe the savage beast!

Renae now you have to post a pic of your new kitten! cat.gif Puppies and kittens - hmm is that heaven or hell or a little bit of both!!!!

Ok if you insist. He is 8 weeks old and is just beautiful and I really didnt need anymore anomals in the house but gee what the hell I have 5 pups inside and why not have 6 anomals inside hey whats one more. I had to plead and beg to get this kitten but got him. So here he is his name is Gin Gin. Short for Ginger I guess was all I could think of at the time

Yes, he is beautiful. All the ginger males I've ever met have been really affectionate, almost overly affectionate! So I hope he falls into that class. Where does he sleep? On the bed with you?? Or with the pups!
trentrenae
He aint real sure on the pups but is gettin there my husband wont let Gin Gin sleep with us he doesnt like cats( even thought you catch him patting Gin Gin and the other cat He He He he always says he hates them. ( Yeah Right) so he has his own bed (the cat not the husband Ha Ha Ha) in which he seems to like so that is good I would love him to slep woth us but no not yet ill see if he ventures that way soon if I keep the door open.

Gin Gin is a town about 2 hours away from here. I love the ginger cats, my grandparents had one when I was growing up his name was Tom (how very original). Gin Gin is a real cool name for a cat. He is adorable and in my eyes the more animals the better. They make your day complete.

I will be putting that spot on staff at the base of the skull area, and yes I am keeping a close eye on the finger. Soaked it in peroxide last night, love how it bubbles up around the area. lol.
