I have been using a new flea treatment called "Comfortis" that has been working excellent. It is an oral treatment that lasts for 4 weeks. The first treatment hat I gave my dogs has lasted for 6 weeks not a flea in sight.
It is much more effective than Advantange.

i stick mine on Sentinel which i think does all... can't say i have read the packet. I know it does heartworm which is why they use it. I have been pretty happy with that coz i haven't seen a single flea on Tash at all.

Thanks Jackie will give it a try when I have used the last of the advantage. The fleas haven't really picked up this year with my two. Maybe because 1. we haven't had the humidity and 2. no bloody rain.

They seem to be bad up here the conditions must be very flea favourable, ticks were the worst I have ever seen them this year as well. Even the horses were covered in them.

I wonder why there isn't any fleas then? I haven't given them a treatment since I got back from herding with the advantage and then there were only a few of the suckers. It was cattle country here so you expect at least ticks, haven't come across any yet. Fingers crossed.

the fleas where here before i moved in you only had to walk out into the paddock out front near the mother of millions paddock (near where tracy and tony had the horse float and your legs would be covered in them, well the dogs have picked up all those fleas and brought them back into the house yard area so the paddocks are now clear lol and the fleas are in my back yard, i have had the dogs on proban advantage and frontline, the advantage and proban helped to keep the flea numbers down for a while but then they seemed to stop working but this new one comfortus is really working well i bathed gypsy and connie yesterday in my bath tub lol and i only found 2 fleas on them and they where not very healthy at all, so i hope by the time i move all the dogs will be totally flea free, i don't have to worry about ticks as it is to dry here for them and joylands is tick free and tara is in a tick free area, about 50kms in so i think i will be safe there but i do know there is fleas there the young bloke that owned it told me that he flea treated his dogs ever 3months as it tells you on the packets YEP HIS DOGS WHERE RIDDLED so next trip down i am taking a heap of lime down to treat the yard.

We have found a few blood suckers on our dog Miley.
We tried advantage and purina applications and they seem to work for a while. Many baths and knit combing later......
If we find a mature flea we give capstar orally.
I have read about owners applying garlic powder to food to discourage fleas from getting comfortable on their dogs.
I have also read that garlic can make dogs very Ill if given too much.
Are there any natural alternatives that owners recommend??
I hate to see her scratching,,!!!

most remedies if you give too much have side effects, most flea products will work eg advantage, but for too short a period for the price of them. We started using Comfortis a couple of years ago and we now only have to give a couple of times a year when fleas are brought in from somewhere else, usually when we are going a trip and don't want to bring anything home with us.
