Full Version: Sherry's Gone :-(
koolies - Coolies, One of the friendliest places on the Net... > Koolies > Rainbow Bridge
Penny Nalder
On Christmas Eve, I had to say a tearful goodbye to my beloved Sherry, Ch Welkin Hollyhock, CDX, ADX. She was just over 14, and had cancer. She lived a lot longer than the vet thought she would. She enjoyed life up until a couple of weeks ago when she started to go down rapidly.

She wasn't a Koolie, but she was my first dog, and taught me so much about training dogs, she did a bit of everything with me. Sherry did competitive obedience, agility, search and rescue training, working trials training, she tried it all.
But most of all, she was my best mate, always there. She would always be with me, following me around from room to room, and around the orchards at work. She would always let me know when someone was coming, no one could sneak up on me!

She always had a wagging tail, it never stopped while she was moving around, and always went faster when she was getting pats from someone.
When she couldn't muster up a wag on the 23rd, I had to let her go.

R.I.P My Love.

She is the happy smiling girl in the middle of this photo.

My heart goes out to you, it is such a difficult decision to make but when the moment comes you just know that you have to let go...

Having recently made that decision with Yardi I know what a heartbreaking decision it is.

I still find it difficult to weed Yardi's grave without tears and quite often go there just say hello and add another special plant, it is so hard to say goodbye to your best mate.

Penny, I am so sorry for your loss. What a great age but what a horrible disease. It was a battle you could not win and no word will make your sorry any better. I am thinking of you.

Penny so sorry to hear, your pain is a fresh memory for me as well, but the great memories are there forever and she has obviously left many wonderful ones so she will always be with you. Not a pleasant lead up to Christmas for you but there must be quality of life. It's a beautiful photo and she is a gorgeous girl.

So sorry Penny, so sad yea-lovely photo of the three of them-pretty dogs indeed. Seeing them in pain but still with the love in their eyes is too much, I know. Truly our greatest friends.

Oh Penny, I am so sorry to hear that.

It must have been such a hard decision and my thoughts are with you.

I am sure she had a beautiful and fulfilled life :-)

Penny I am so sorry - it is such a hard decision to make but you will have many happy memories of her.
Penny Nalder
That was the hardest decision I have ever had to make. I felt like such a traitor, taking her on that last trip. I know I had to though, she would have been miserable over the public holiday until Tuesday.
She almost wasn't eating and was getting very thin.
She wasn't in pain, I got some really good painkillers for her. The vet gave me 15 days worth, but I only used 9 days worth. That's how fast she went down :-(

Everything just seems wrong. It all should be done in threes. Three meals, three treats, three to get in the car, three to trim nails... only two now, and everything seems incomplete.

:( good things come in pairs too...you're 2 remaining friends will see to that :)

Oh Penny. Words can never be enough to express how sorry I am that you had to let Sherry go to the rainbow bridge, remember she will be there waiting for you. It is terribly hard, they are always there, with a wag of a tail, a happy greeting and the loyalty that never abates. And she will always be there in your memories and your heart. I wish I was nearby to give you a hug and a cup of tea.

Oh Penny, I feel for you. A blessing and a curse that we can give them their release from pain. But so hard to say goodbye, she will always be in your heart, she was your teacher and your friend. Big hugs to you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Sherry, Penny. My heart goes out to you.

It definitely isn't an easy decision to make any time, let alone right before Christmas.

Just read this and had a cry myself.
No one waits for the responsability, no one looks for the end.
But you stepped up like the champion Sherry was and you rewarded her with the only gift any of us can give, peace.
Well done mate, well done
Penny Nalder
Thanks TJ, she'd been with me for such a long time, it still seems when I look around at the orchard, and she's not in sight, that she should just be in the next row, you know, just behind a tree where I can't see her.

I just read this i am a bit late but have been of here for so long and would just like to say i am sorry for your loss Penny.
Hope things have gotten a bit better this year for you and your family

So far so good Trentrenae, Ashley is pretty good now, only a little lame, Dice is going strong, and doing well in agility, and wee Haze - well, she's having fun being a puppy, and amusing me endlessly.
Quinn is an old man now, badly lame with his arthritic hip, mostly deaf and blind in one eye, but still going strong despite that!

Still miss Sherry at times, but there's a lot less barking with her not there! She was the stirrer who told the others to bark. They just asked what at and how long?? :-)
