According to the notes he was left tied up outside the pound, that's all they know. The pound is pretty full at the moment so if his behaviour deteriorates due to stress he will likely be put on the PTS list sooner rather than later unfortunately.

No - I haven't sent the link to TJ - completely slipped my mind to do that. I just spoke to one of the local rescuers and at the moment the dog is still in there.

he is now safe in foster care in Canberra - he has a new name - Dodger - is booked into the vet for the big chop and has even had a bath - although he did not think he needed one - and is happy playing with his foster sister.

He looked very settled and relaxed in the photos which is great to see.
How is his temperament? Do you think he will be easy to re-home in that sense?

Sweet, gentle, likes to be a lapdog, already trained, not fond of cats or thunder or baths.

HI Guys
Just to give you an update on Dodger here in Canberra.
Cats are no problem, well the cat has the problem, dodger is just scared of her when she growls, otherwise he basically ignores her completely even when she's on the ground near him.
Thunder or anything that resembles it is still an issue, he runs and hides. Also any that he considers to be uncomfortable atmosphere, we had to send the dogs outside today because we had to dash to an urgent appointment, it took a while to drag him out of under my daughters bed.
And he seems to be afraid of cameras, every time we get one out, he cringes away.
My sister brought her two boys aged 3 and 5 over today and he acted like he was 'home' bouncing on the trampoline with them and our coolie cross Dizzy.
Biggest smooch you ever saw. Just loves laying all over my hubby not bad considering he was too scared to even look at hubby originally.
He's learning about fetching balls, and occasionally gets it right, but otherwise enjoys the fun anyway.
The word 'outside' has a negative conotation that we're slowly chipping away at, with treats & fun, he now goes out without too much fuss some of the time.
Shares his food quite happily with our other dog, no problems.
Put him on the halti for the first time yesterday and he responded beautifully, I'm sure he is trained but not followed through, rather than not trained at all, he responds too quickly for a dog that doesn't understand what we're asking of him. And responds 9 out of 10 times to the stay command.
The more I look at him the more I'm convinced that there's either heeler or something else lurking, tail is only about 3/4 lenth but waggs lots anyways.
Due for another bath today to help with flea bite irritation, thats happening shortly. Wonder how much of a fight i get this time.
Am determined to get him into a wonderful forever home soon.
Keep your eyes open for us.
Cheers
Cindy

Cindy...so great to hear he is doing well and that he is slowly getting over his fears.

Well that bath wasn't so bad :) Coped well, with our other pup in the bathroom as moral support, before she had hers. Now all we gotta do is cope with two ferals running through the house while they work off their frisky after bath rampage cause its raining here :)
He really is a lovely dark red, not seen a colour quite like him before.
Will have to be a little inventive with the camera, will upload some mopre photos soon.

Been following the link, pleased to hear that he has settle and out of his scary situation. Baths are never fun, so who got more wet the dog or you?

Mar 9 2010, 05:06 PM
my daughter who's a veteran at bathing (has her own coolie x) went in in her swimmers, all i had to do was the towling afterwards :) not silly. He smells so much better now, and is actually soft. Doesn't help that we have a fish pond and he just loves to stand in it (tummy deep) to have a drink.

She's mothering Dodger like you wouldn't believe. I didn't think there would be anything more important than the 'ball' but she actually sits and waits for Dodger to have a go at fetching, its so cute to watch.
Her rescue was somewhat muddled, I thought she came from Melbourne, but now am wondering if she was actually from Newcastle, which pound did she come from do you know??
Loreley
Mar 15 2010, 08:34 PM
There is a Whippet cross called Bella in Coff's Harbour RSPCA that is the image of dizzy. she've 5 so could be her mum I suppose. Likeness is so close you have trouble telling them apart.

Cindy, how is Dodger doing? Any news on a forever home for him yet?

Mar 30 2010, 06:01 PM
He's still here at this stage, the people that want to meet him have had some medical issues with their mother (broken leg which resulted in hip replacement) so things are a bit chaotic for them at the moment.
I am hopeful in the next week we'll be able to hook up for a meet & greet to see how things go. Fingers and toes crossed.
In the meantime, we went to the 'dogs day out' here in Canberra, OMG the amount of dogs!!! Dodger went pretty good considering he's probably not seen that many dogs in his life, behaved really well.
Walking on a lead well now, am taking him out regularly and he's enjoying going out and coming back!! Has selective deafness, doesn't like to come back if you let him off though, hubby found that one out the hard way :)
Car travel is getting there, more work to do but he's progressing.
Thunder well forget it ..... sigh oh well lots more work to do on that front, found him in next doors yard this afternoon he broke through the fence was that scared.
But.... He's finally learning to play, we had him and Dizzy running nuts through the house last night chasing each other with toys. He now has his very own Kong ball and fluffy penguin that squeeks and is starting to work out that they are for playing with...

Good to hear he is progressing with his behaviour and becoming more used to other dogs and people. You are doing wonderful work with him.
That is a shame about that family but then i guess they just weren't meant to be and someone wonderful will come along for Dodger

Sometimes it almost seems that some rescue dogs don't know how to play or at least it takes them a little while to relax and let their guard down and play. Fingers crossed the right home for him comes along soon.
