Frazz was waiting for me to open the gate to take them though.
It is really difficult taking photos and directing Bender at the same time. He wanted to go get the chooks as well!!
Poor ducks they were had it!! I was going to try some of the other youngsters but I put them back away so they could have a paddle in their pond. I use the dogs to collect the turkeys at the end of the day as well.

great pic's jackie i love that coloured duck in the first pic the one with the heap of white on it, looks like you will have to take all the working pic's for a while that is until i get some stock on this place to eat some of this grass down. P.S the boy's look great you have done a great job with frazz he looks nice and steady working those ducks
well done

I don't do anything he just does it himself. Hopefully he is going to teach his apprentice well!

I was told Dodger would benefit from a group of friendly ducks or geese to play with, just gotta get around hubby, he's none to keen on me starting a farm in our back yard.
Although I would need to see how Dizzy would go with them, she views the cockateils as nibbles at the moment.
I gave some serious thought about geese but they can be really noisy and we're in the suburbs.
Are chooks as hardy? they're at least reasonably quiet.

Ha Frazz will work the chooks as well, and guinea foul and we have tried the turkeys but he does prefer his ducks. We have two drakes they are Cayuga x pekin and very steady. They don't flap around as chooks are prone to do with the young dogs. I find with the chooks the young dogs are more prone to chase them than with the ducks.

aren't ducks messy? our backyard is reasonably large, and i would love to have chickens & maybe a couple of ducks, i've already got an area out the back in mind for it.... but hubby is saying that ducks are really messy. just wondering what you do with their water, or can you get ducks that don't actually need water (as in to swim of course).

I have one of those blue children's sand pit shell thingys that I fill with water, I change it a couple of times a week. My ducks are not necessarily locked up, we have a chook pen but the door is usually open so they come and go in the sheep paddock so I don't really notice the mess. Probably only having to helps.

Great another way to do it :) grins we'll get there eventually. Dreams of world domination & free range egg supply dancing in her head.
Jackie i notice your pup has a shortened tail? is this common for the shorter haired variety of the breed? Dodger has a 3/4 tail if you had to actualy measure it. Just curious.
