Hi All

I have recently had a phone call from a local dog owner who told me his 6 month old dog was starving to death and wouldn't eat.

After I went to have a look and tried a couple of things I found that the dog was terrified and wouldn't eat because one of the other dogs there was standing over this dog.

If you ever find that this happens to you segregate the dog and re teach it to eat for if you don't the dog will starve to death.

If you wish to avoid this and have several dogs either stay with them when they are fed or seperate them at feeding time.
My dogs are tied up at feeding time and can't interfere with each other.

Heck poor little guy/girl....I had the opposite, pup would take the older dogs food if not watched, but it was just pup litter instinct...Now it's bones, he buries one and chews and carries the other about. I dig up the hidden one and give it to the older dog...after all I am the BOSS of the dogs funny.gif

I separate them to feed, opposite ends of the verandah and the older dog is ALWAYS served first.

As pups I always watch them feed, to teach them their manners.
As adults they run together and I have no problems over food, unless in becomes a tool in the pecking order, a lower or younger dog will challenge another over food trying to establish itself higher in the pack, I don't interfere, because the matriarch and patriarch sort them out if it gets too rough.
Each night I lock them all down in their own kennels, which have their own food and water source, so it someone misses out during the day thy catch up at night.
Because we use a grazing method where by there is dry food at all times, in kennels and out in the exercise yards, our dogs don't gorge or fight because there is plenty for everyone.
We also don't have over weight Koolies, though the geriatrics put on a bit of extra insulation as they slow down, then we just move them to the oldies paddock and put them on Bonny white and lite.
