Our Jack comes on holiday with us as often as we are able to take him. Our last trip was up the Oodnadatta Track a way. This photo was taken on the magnificent tip of Lake Eyre South where we stopped for a rest and a brew. Our bloke never quite knows where he is going to end up but i dont think he much cares as long as he is with us.

Great photo Marylu, what an amaizing place that must be, we stopped once to peer over the edge of the Great Australian Bite and the feelings of insignificance were almost overwhelming. I guess it could be similar there. Just a pity it isn't full of water... Jack looks like he is enjoying himself, it is great you take him with you.

Sorry Marylu for pinching your thread, we rescuers will do anything, we have no shame. spank.gif
Know of anyone how would love to give him a family of his own.
He's only six years, his owners moved off the land and couldn't bare the thought of making him move to suburbia.
He is just as lovely as Jack and very fit, he keeps up with our two year olds, I don't know if he can work, haven't had the opportunity to check that out yet.
You know where to go for more info. diespam.gif

As most dog owners would know, taking the dogs away on holidays requires a fair bit of planning. We tend to go to more unusual places and dont have need of accommodation as we sleep out, but, it does limit our options quite considerably taking Jack with us at times. We cannot camp in any National Parks or Conservation Parks, and alot of State Parks and forests are also out of bounds which doesnt leave much in some areas. We prefer not to sleep in caravan parks around people but have occasionally have had to as they will often allow dogs.

We intended to take Jack with us to the Eyre Peninsula last trip away, but, found from internet researching that most of the places we wanted to go to would not allow the dog which really made it tough. We ended up on the Oodnadatta track following the old Ghan railway and had no problems camping out anywhere we wanted to. Jack loves camping; for him its just another excuse to sleep firmly wedged between us in the swags. And to think I bought him his own little half beach tent on our first trip, worrying he might want some shelter!

We travel in a 4wd ute with a canvas canopy and Jack quite happily sits in the back with his end rolled up so he can peek out when he chooses to. He is well versed in outback travel now, knowing when to stick his head in and sleep the miles away, waking up whenever the truck goes slower than about 50 k or so. As long as there is a ball for him when he gets out he is pretty happy.

Its not easy on him some days when we have to drive long distances to get home, sometimes travelling 12 hours or more, but with frequent stops and some gentle exercise, he seems happy enough. The last few hundred miles on bitumen at night, we shut out the cold for him and leave him be to sleep until we get home.

I think he loves it and I love having more excuses to find dog places to exercise him, from throwing him in the springs at Coward Springs in the outback to chasing balls around footy grounds in little country towns we have a pretty good time together.

Lake Eyre, well, its big. It doesnt make you feel insignificant or small though, it gives you a real sense of peace and liberation being on the edge of its vastness alone, and knowing you are a very long way from another human being. Nothing like it.

Thanks for commenting, I hope you dont mind the occasional photo of us all, we love a chance to show him off.

you are so lucky going on trips like that i would love to do it but working 7 days a week makes it very hard to do and we don't get holidays at the end of the year it makes me envy you lol and jack looks great.
